Belzerion [MAC] [J] Human Entertainment, Inc. 1993

An obscure exclusive game from Japan, curious mix of Snatcher (Sega CD/Saturn/PC Engine), Ghost in the Shell (film) and Iron Angel of Apocalypse (3DO/PC). 3D graphic adventure, arcade shooter and even partially fighting. Developed and launched in 1993 by Human Entertainment for Mac, best known for the Clock Tower series, was ported to 3DO a year later. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic distant future, where a violent religion enslaving people arises. You play as a part of the police force that investigates this situation and goes into the field using an armor called Mega-Costume-9999, which looks like a mix of Gundam with Robocop. Graphically Belzerion is pretty beautiful and features three styles of gameplay. First phase starts in a point-and-click style at your apartment (or base), where you receive a briefing from the head, then transportation to the crime scene or location of the mission follows. Now is the turn of exploration phase, which goes in first-person perspective with polygonal graphics generated in real time. When you face an enemy, either a robot or drone, you enter a phase of shooting from the distance or hand-to-hand combat. Despite the language, one can play it to the end without understanding a word, because gameplay is very intuitive and straight. It is worth at least to give it a try.
