Swords of Xeen Catware, Inc. / New World Computing, Inc. 1995

This began as Catware's fan modification of Might and Magic: Darkside of Xeen (and hence contains no new visual or sound assets not found in that earlier game). Its eventual endorsement and publication by Xeen overlords New World propelled it out of fangame territory. The scenario takes place in an entirely revised gameworld, with no recurring locales from previous games. The world that is under attack by 'The Source', which claims to be the genius behind Alamar, the main enemy of Might and Magic V. The scenario is particularly notable for pioneering the "rule and rebuild your own town" concept, which was eventually revisited by New World Computing in the form of Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor's Castle Harmondale. It exploits some quirks of the engine to great effect, such as morphing monsters by using the regular animation of one monster and the attack animation of another. It was initially released in 1995 as a "bonus scenario" in the Might and Magic Trilogy compilation (the "trilogy" refers to Might and Magic III, IV, and V). Subsequently, it was also included in several series anthologies. The game was never published in standalone form.
