Yeah, it came as a surprise when they announced it on Saturday Night Live. Though it wasn't a shock considering the sad state of his health in these past years, it's still very sad to see a comedy legend leave us. Too bad he wasted his talent in later years by doing tamed-down movies to finance his drug habit, but his early films and his genius in stand-up comedy will live on. Rest in peace.
Most of the so called tamed down movies were done as a favor for his good friend Gene Wilder. Who himself is a great vomedic talent. Albeit in acting not standup. However I too will miss Rivhard Pryor. Although I do happen to have all of his DVD's.
The ones with Gene Wilder were actually funny.... I was referring to unfunny stuff like Superman III and The Toy, etc.
Eddie Murphy whose idol was Pryor also has done a bunch of unfunny ones suited more for kids as well..... guess that's just the way the movie industry is going.....less and less films for adults.
