Problem installing "80 Days"

Post by Adeel S. Ahmed »

I downloaded 80 days (2 CDs ISO Demo) from this website. I mounted the first CD ISO and it mounted fine. The AutoRun.exe runs normally as it should and I'm able to install the game upto the point where it asks for me to insert CD 2. I mount the other CD ISO into the very same virtual drive. It mounts fine (I assume so because I don't get any error message), but when I click "OK". The Installer hangs up and doesn't respond any more.

Things I've done so far:

-I've waited few good minutes for it to resume but it doesn't.
-I've tried killing the setup process via Task Manager (but the process doesn't get killed either. I'm left with no option but to reset my pc - pc responds to other programs very well but doesn't respond and/or kill the installer).
-Tried reinstalling Daemon Tools
-Tried Turning Off Avira Real Time Protection

All but to no avail... :(

Necassary Info:
I'm using Windows XP SP3
I'm using Daemon Tools Lite 4.49.1

I noticed the similar behaviour when I tried to Install Sims 2 (4 CDs ISO - The Installer would hangup when I'd mount CD 2).

Please note that I've successfully mounted ISOs and used them before. In fact, just before trying to install Sims 2 (4 CDs ISO). I'd successfully installed Mafia: The City of Lost Heavens (3 CDs ISO) downloaded from this very site. I've also checked the SFV files for the said game (80 days) and they are reported to be OK.

Hence, I'm quite surprised as to why it stopped working all of a sudden. I've tried my level best to search for this issue but found no answer. Please help.

:thanks: in advance!

Just downloaded the game and tested it. The game installs fine here under Windows 7 64-bit. I used DT Pro to mount the images. The game itself doesn't work here under 7 64-bit though.

You could try to boot in Windows Safe Mode and then install the game. Maybe that helps.

Managed to install the game. Here's a detailed summary of what I did (in case some one else stumbles on this rare problem):

Giving up on Daemon Tools, I decided to give Alcohol 52 % retail version a go. I borrowed it from my friend for testing purposes. It was giving me same results like DT, initially. After some tweaking, I finally managed to install the game. Here are some points which I did and observed (some of which I was unable to do in DT Lite).

- I added two virtual drives (since this installer allows to browse for another drive where the player might have inserted CD 2)
- Assigned the drive letters to W and Y respectively (since my USB Wireless Modem is recognised by Windows as a CD-ROM drive and assigned letter F: - perhaps this was causing conflict?
- I turned on Emulation for Safe Discs 1 & 2, SecuROM and Laser Lock Technology (though I don't think the ISOs from this site would be protected but who knows?)
- I mounted both ISOs to separate virtual drives and pointed the second drive (when it asked for CD 2)
- It doesn't matter whether real time scan is turned on or off. The game installed successfully with the real time scan being turned on.

I'm yet to test this method with the installers which don't allow to browse for another drive. Will update the post accordingly when I test it out. :)

Thanks for your help, Shattered. You guys are awesome! :thanks:

PS: The game runs fine for me, btw. One of the reasons why I still use XP.
