Downloading the most you can from a free 4shared account

Post by _Antithesis_ »

I decided to make a bit of a helpful... 'guide' thing to help people get the most data out of their 4shared account without having to switch over to a new account. Mind you, this isn't going to allow you to download everything without ever changing accounts, but it does make dealing with larger downloads a bit less tedious. Mind you, I currently have 21 4shared accounts that I slide between as I hit daily and monthly download limits, and I might end up adding even more, so that shows you that downloading dozens upon dozens of games from here as I have is still going to be quite monotonous. Since I've mentioned that...

Make a number of 4shared accounts. Depending on how many games you intend to download and their size, you might want anywhere from 2 to 50 (if you're an overachiever trying to download everything you possibly can). This isn't a fun process, as you have to constantly bounce back and forth beween creating an email account and then a 4shared account, then back to the email account to activate the authentication email. Both Yahoo! (I don't actually use Yahoo!, but it's probably the easiest site to make email accounts for, so keep that in mind) and 4shared even gave me messages along the lines of, "Why the shit are you making so many accounts, you freako? That's mighty damned suspicious. -_-" which is nothing more than tiny lil' baby hindrance as 4shared makes you enter in a quick captcha. It's amusing, though, but that's beside the point.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milk the everloving hell out of each account per day. This is where the real 'tactics' come in. 4shared is kind of strange in how it manages detection of the amount of data you've downloaded. It seems to only update the amount of data you've updated when a file finishes. However, you can only keep up a certain number of downloads at a time (or it's possibly limited to how much data you're attempting to download at once, which seems less likely, but I'd need to pay close attention. I'll edit this post if I notice anything along these lines). This means you need to do some math sometimes. Yeah, I know, that sounds real damned fun, but it's a lot better than having to wait until the next day because you cut yourself short on each of your accounts and can't download anymore.

To be quick about it, pay attention to the size of the .rar files you're probably downloading. Keep this in mind. Then figure out how many of those you can download while still leaving room for one of these files to be downloaded. If you're downloading a hell of a lot of smaller files, figure out how many you can download while leaving room for 3 or 4 of the files to be downloaded. When you've figured that out, download that number of files and let them finish downloading. You should still under 3 GB with room to spare for one or two 100 or 200MB downloads, or three or four 25MB downloads (or even five or six for 12 mb downloads. Also, this is off-topic, but please stop uploading games in a billion tiny pieces, people. 100 MB or 200 MB files are GODSENDS and even those seem too small sometimes when there's 80+ files to download on larger games). Now, if you aren't using the folder view of 4shared, you might want to. It has a bug at the moment in which it doesn't wish to display the last page of files unless it's a full page, but there are several ways around that. I suggest the folder view because it's easier to just bring up a number of tabs at one time. With there now an appropriate amount of space available for more downloads, bring up around 18 - 20 tabs of files of the game you're trying to download. If you end up going to another page to grab more downloads, don't do so quite yet. If all of your downloads are on the same page, do what I'm about to say regardless. Go on each tab and click 'download'. It will reload the page and it will display 'FREE DOWNLOAD' as a grey button with 'Waiting time - 20 seconds' above it. Don't click that yet. Just get to this page on each of these tabs. If you still have more tabs to fill, NOW go to the next page and grab the rest. Then do the same as you just did, hitting 'download', but NOT 'FREE DOWNLOAD'. Verify that each tab is on the appropriate page. Now, go to the first tab in this new Congo line of file downloads you've lined up and get ready to be quick as hell. When you're ready, you're going to click 'FREE DOWNLOAD' to set the timer ticking down. Then go from tab to tab, clicking that button to set up as many downloads into motion as you can. Don't worry if some files start to download, just be fast enough to get the timers counting down on all of the pages before you've filled up your remaining 3GB download limit.

If you've done it right, you've now got something like 20 (more or less) downloads running at once. If some of your pages aren't loading over to the page that says 'Your download has started', you've probably hit whatever potential download limit (not the same as the 3GB limit I've mentioned, as that will give you another message stating that you've reached your daily 3GB limit in that case) they have in place and it'll start when one of the other downloads finish. Through this way, I've managed to download over twice, nearing 3 times the 3GB limit on some games with larger files. When all of your downloads finish (some may not have started if you're unlucky or too slow, and they'll have a "You've reached your limit" message for you to see), switch to your next account and restart the process.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, so this was a long and potentially confusing(?) post. If you need any clarification with screenshots or the like, just ask and I'll clear it up. I'm tired and I'm sure I made grammatical and spelling errors as well as just generally writing in a rough, hard-to-understand way. I'm not great at communicating. :P I hope this has helped some people download their files more quickly, though. Maybe this might get stickied, too, to help anyone in future. (Hint hint...)

The tiny pieces are left overs from the old days where we would upload on pic hosters and change the extension to allow us to do that.

Ahhh, that makes a lot of sense. I gotta say, I was quite happy when I downloaded Brink (at least I think it was Brink...) and the files were 500MB each. Made DL'ing it MUCH less tedious.

The small pieces are also from a service Yahoo used to run.

Was the main post good or was it a bunch of useless shyt that everyone already knew?

You can probably do the same with a download manager like http://jdownloader.org/download/offline
Plus, you don't have to click browser screens manually. Just copy url of 4shared folder link and it will create download links for all individual files in a queue. So then you can set them to all download at same time. But, doing so many simultaneous downloads might set off an alarm at the host or might corrupt the downloads if your connection can't keep track of all of them. To avoid all that though, you can also set login/passwords for all your different accounts and once you get error after 3GB on one account are downloaded, you can easily switch to another account from jdownloader.

I've tried it with Jdownloader, actually. The thing with Jdownloader is that it's convenient for a little bit until something stops me. For stuff from TehParadox, it's captchas. From TheIsoZone, it's because the downloads aren't working 100% now and it keeps trying the same defunct download repeatedly until the file host goes, "NOW YOU HAVE TO WAIT 30 MINUTES, YOU BAD BOY." With stuff on here via 4shared, it's switching between accounts, which ultimately makes Jdownloader feel more tedious to me than it would normally. Dunno why. Jdownloader and I just don't get along for some reason that I can't quite explain properly. Perhaps its because I use it hoping to have to not pay attention to it, but because its automated, I'm not aware when a problem arises. So I have to keep checking in on something I want to just figure this crap out itself, and it just pisses me off. But that's a guess. I dunno.

The ISO Zone's downloads stopped working some weeks ago due to "server problems" on cloudstor (or most likely the host taking them off intentionally), so it's nothing to do with jdownloader. The need to enter captcha for those hosts that use it is also unavoidable. Anyways, have a little patience with downloading. Nothing is totally without some blips along the way. ;)

Cloudstor.es is apparently a side project of TIZ's founder. That's why the files are all on there. So when he says there's server problems, I believe him. With that said, I didn't mean to make it sound as though Jdownloader just refused to download the files. What I meant is that Jdownloader wouldn't just go on to the next file instead, which may have worked, it just continues trying to download the same dead file until Cloudstor.es gives me a big ol' "NO." I guess I just like keeping a very personal eye on my downloads, knowing exactly when I told them to start, and knowing pretty much when they finished. Jdownloader doesn't quite give me that.

jDownloader has problems with its plugin* for 4shared. Even if you reformulate the url with "dir" instead of "folder" before giving it to jDownloader it will still only load the first 18-36 files. Which then means you have to load the rest by hand into jDownloader or just download the files via browser.

* At least it did last time I used to it to get some files from 4shared.

I tried downloading a a full game image 2.7GB wrapped up in a B1 file.
It said i used up my 3gb daily amount after only 130MB of the file.

i tried it again from a different account and it did the same thing.

So i made smaller 700mb B1 files from the games rar files and the download behaved normally with the 3gb allowance.

p.s.. i use b1 wrapped files because they download faster for me.

I downloaded ~8GB from a 4shared account a couple of days ago... but I have over 20 4shared accounts.. when one account reaches its limit jDownloader invokes the next account to be used.

I reinstalled the jDownloader2 beta a couple of weeks ago.. twas crashing quite a bit on its updates.. so yes it gets bloated and screwed up after awhile.

There's a place in settings for account information.. basically add as many in as you have or want.
