OK, I will do that. This could take a while though. It's a nice sunny weekend here and it may well be the last one for this year ;)

Tools

Compression
7-zip
WinRAR
WinACE (better for RIPS)
PreComp (slow but efficient, although not recommended for your uploads. Better use it for your compression experiments)
ECM (for dumps) (included in Command-Line Pack v1.03)
WinUHA

Media dumping tools
MagicISO
WinISO
CloneCD (handles protected discs)
BlindWrite (handles protected discs)
DAEMON Tools (handles protected discs)
Alcohol 120% (handles protected discs)
IsoBuster
UltraISO
PowerISO
WinImage (can dump floppies)
CDCheck (detects errors and checks file integrity)
CD/DVD Inspector (makes detailed reports on medias)

Integrity check
QuickSFV
wxChecksums
RapidCRC

NFO/Release DB
xREL - has NFO available for download
NFOHump - has NFO available for download
PreDB.me
ORLYDB
PreList.ws

Others
JavE (NFO maker)
4shared Desktop (for downloading/uploading to 4shared, manage folders, etc.)
File&Image Uploader (supports about 280 file hosters)
If you use File Uploader, you must connect to your 4shared account via Tools --> Settings --> File hosters before starting uploading.

Having read "Upload a game" section, I see "4shared deletes the files you uploaded after 180 days without login to your account."
As I can't promise that I can/will log in in every 180 days, then how is backup organized?
Can I upload "something" to "somewhere" for more stable user who can upload himself and make sure it stays?

ps: I realize I could use some other site for upload which promises "indefinite", but nothing is sure.

NFO/Release DB

srrDB:

Code: Select all

http://www.srrdb.com/
The site has NFO and SFV files available for download for most scene releases. Serials are removed from the NFOs.

That's one very handy site, thank you for this address Shattered. I'll add it to the guide very soon. I'm going to rewrite everything almost from scratch anyway, I don't like anymore the way I wrote it.

You're welcome.

The purpose of that site is to rebuild the original scene RAR files from extracted scene releases. Apparently, it only works for stored (uncompressed) RAR files, which means movie releases. I tried once to recreate a game release, but it didn't work because game groups use compression.

Thanks for writing this guide. I guess there are some posts in between your guide that could be moved. Better to have the whole guide together.

Also, the file RLSgen.bat has been removed from fast.karelia.pro.

You can rebuild game releases with pyRescene, but it's really buggy and doesn't work for many releases yet. However, I have been able to rebuild a few releases with it.

Cool, just found out it also has a tool to properly retag altered scene MP3 & FLAC releases.

I was able to rebuild a compressed release with pyRescene + the tutorials on the site below:

Code: Select all

It doesn't happen very often. gfy still has many many bugs to fix in pyRescene.

Do you know if there's a GUI for pyRescene? It's not very user friendly at the moment.

Not that I know of. I just use a simple batch file that I edit.
