[Request] Ready to go System 7.5.5 emulator for Windows
hi men hi guys I'm lookin for a pre-packed ready to go system 7.5.5 emulator, I want to test an ancient mac cdrom that I recently received. any help?
Become a bit lazy recently and I don't have time and patience to mess with mac os installation in an emulator.
The magic disc to test is 3Dアトラス (the japanese edition of ElectronicArts' 3dAtlas), cdrom is marked as "not for retail", maybe it was bundled with some japanese macintosh machine? I wonder if this edition has been already dumped.

Quote from chat, can't find anything better ATM, will take a look again later today
For the latter - IDK
EDIT: Some more (no VDI nor VMDK unfortunately
)

For the former - install the included GTK+ runtime, run GUI as Admin, increase RAM & disable Just-In-Time (or something like that), and then figure out how to mount removable drives there (dunno myself)

For the latter - IDK

Re: [Request] Ready to go System 7.5.5 emulator for Windows
UPDATE: The OS8.5 (and later) system CDs contain Japanese files for optional installation from the get-go, but for the sake of compatibility I've been fiddling with 7.5.5 all this time - and I've found what to do in order to insert Japanese support there (since the toast image refuses to mount in guest
):
If anyone can fetch the latter from FTP, gonna install the pack and (if wanted to) try my luck with this 3D Atlas (which is likely a Macromedia Director title, based on its 3DO footage)
EDIT: English version for reference

In the meanwhile I managed to run this in sheepshaver + os9 but i̶t̶ ̶h̶a̶s̶ ̶v̶a̶r̶i̶o̶u̶s̶ ̶g̶r̶a̶p̶h̶i̶c̶a̶l̶ ̶g̶l̶i̶t̶c̶h̶e̶s̶,̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶a̶u̶d̶i̶o̶ ̶i̶s ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶k̶i̶n̶g̶,̶ ̶m̶o̶s̶t̶ ̶p̶r̶o̶b̶a̶b̶l̶y̶ ̶d̶u̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶ ̶p̶r̶o̶b̶l̶e̶m̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶q̶u̶i̶c̶k̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶e̶x̶t̶e̶n̶s̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ and japanese texts are garbled, because I'm using the included english os.
I'd like to up this but I don't know what's the cd image format the mac abandonware world usually chooses...

Re: [Request] Ready to go System 7.5.5 emulator for Windows
In short: For preservation purposes - ISO will do for data-only stuff, but for mixed-mode BIN/CUE seems to be recommended everywhere (even though mounting those in emulators seems to haven't been polished out to this day - I've only seen a tip to try Alcohol 120% with SheepShaver), and even then one needs to select specific settings (which filesystem, mode, etc) to ensure maximum compatibility
And from what I've gathered, .toast is data-only and Mac's (or Disk Copy's, IDK) .img still hasn't been documented and reversed well enough for full usage on Windows (I only saw MacImage, but that only does ImgBurn Build, haven't found anything with ImgBurn Read
) and further usable contextual separation from CloneCD online
AFAIK Mactards seem to be worse than purists & kiddie-demanders combined
So if possible, try to contact SwedeBear for assistance
Best of luck though

Well, I suppose a simple .iso renamed to .toast and compressed with classic StuffIt .sit algorithm is "mactarded" enough! •

Bit late at the call here but if still needed;
– Japanese Mac OS 7.5.3 here at MacintoshGarden and Mac OS 7.6 here at the same place.
Renaming .iso file into .toast may cause loss of info as files in those days were in fact 2-parts; one 'Resource Fork' and one 'Data Fork'.

Never, Sir!! Every finding is a something.
.toast files may be mounted inside the emulated Mac OS. In macOS X they can be associated with the emu through prefs and mounted 'inside'. HFS Explorer manages these image files too IIRC.
