Steam JUST DROPPED WIN7\WIN8\Win8.1 SUPPORT

And Steam just dropped Windows 7 support , showing its anti-consumer stand... since FORCED Google Chrome changes made only to deprecate OLD CHROME BOOKS\CHROME STREAM STICKS\GOOGLE STADIA from NET ACCESS (*R hax), that China Sells as E-waste Cheap Laptops ... sometimes as Game Machines with Batocera installed on them. All this to COMBAT CHINA reselling old E-waste Chrome Books as retrofitted laptops. And since Steam OS and its client is build on Chrome OS and Chrome Browser ... why Valve wtf??? You can't code your own browser ? Oh right , since Chrome and WIn10\Win11\11.1 has those nice Spying features Valve uses... ey...

When they dropped Winxp\Vista it hit gaming hard , moved legitimate users to GOG ,or to the high seas . Since , NEWS FLASH you could still buy those OLD GAMES ON STEAM. Winxp had 8bit\16bit\32bit application compatibility meaning you could play Win3.11\Win95\Win98 games in it , translated from DX1 to Dx9c with all its graphical features . Not to mention Sound drivers that had EAX HD sound . Vista gave memory management and DX11 , but it had no Dx9c it EMULATED IT 80% of Dx9c games DID NOT F WORK IN IT . That's why people hated Vista .

Win7 was a godsend , with reworked DX11.1 that had Full Backwards Compatibility with Dx1 to DX9c (and all DRM compatibility). Memory Management that made Winxp\Win98\Win98\Win3.11 games running on the same hardware load 3x faster ... and actually work , then force on you a VM .

Win10\Win11\Win11.1(soon renamed to win12) came and... its Dx12 do NOT SUPPORT DX1 to DX9c (forget about games from Winxp\Win95\Win98\Win3.11 ). You have to reinstall dx8 and dx9c AND FORCE THOSE WILL API CALLS TO WORK . Use GFX EMULATION WRAPPERS and DX API CALL WRAPPERS that take from 20% to 40% FPS off the game native speed , you would get in WinXP\Win7 . Not to mention each Windows Update deprecates Backwards Compatibility with games that worked Native , like Dx7 games do not work no more , when it worked before (they can't even boot with wrappers). Heck , even new games worked in DX11 since devs where not suicidal to drop support form it even in 2023.

For those that are ON LINUX , your ass is already prepared for that 20% to 40% FPS off the game... since you play in VMs ... that EMULATE API CALLS ... then RUN THE GAME NATIVE ,ON THE SAME HARDWARE , WITH FULL SPEED...

So now all games from steam that where made before 2016 (Since win10 DX 12 era started in 2016 )... will be broken , soon to be removed ... or replaced with a Wrapper that takes 20% to 40% fps of those games ... and those that will no longer run ... will be removed ... since dx12.1 as of now gives you Raytracing ... but forget about backwards compatibility ... the only thing good from this change will be , those gamers and those games will come to GOG\Zoom Platform... resold with OS Emulators\Wrappers

Tried it myself, i had to reapply the compatibility fix once steam got updated. So that might be why some people are still having issues.

Downloading and installing games also work.
