Weeeellll...

Like it was already said, UHARC is only (a very, very powerful) compressor, not a tool to rip games.

But it is no longer command line only, there's WinUHA as well. It's really nice and good - but I still stick to the command line version. And since version 0.6a can (finally!) do sfx-archives, I'm in the process of redoing all my game packs.

On topic: I'm neither a supplier nor a cracker nor an uploader. If I have an ISO and the time to do it, I usually can do rips (I hate crippled games, though and thus ripping means for me to rip it of a CD and not to rip stuff out). I used to love strategy games and have a small collection of old ones, from Dune2 and WarCraft to Dark Reign. I can do a simplistic and very basic site, if you really want to do such a project. Just never count me in to search for webspace, I'd just create stuff and provide you with a simple website.

BTW: I'm one of the abandonware guys; I do this because I love the classics, not because I want to support piracy.

Off topic: I didn't find any category on this board to introduce myself and also none to offer anything. I've been working with 3dsl in the past (Lufo Flausch mailed me an eternity ago!) and used to maintain my own site. Even today some of the reviews on old titles in 3dsl were reviews copied from my first abandonware site (For example bad toys 3d - which is kind of vexing me, because what was copied off was not a real review, but a few-line placeholder and it really sounds like that...).

Nestlesux might still remember me from another board where we suddenly were no longer welcome after the board "went pure" (abandonware).

I saw a topic here asking for help translating reviews to English. Well, I could help with that. But I could also offer better reviews of some games (especially the early ones as I played through most of them). Other than that I have gamepacks that are usually a few KB smaller than those 3dsl has.

And another thing I found to be totally missing: audio tracks. I can offer about 2.5 GB losslessly compressed audio cd music for games like HeXen, Quake, Half-Life and so on.

I also own a few games that 3dsl does not currently link to, like "The hidden below" and a few unofficial mission packs for Quake and so on.

Since I never had any contact to the 3dsl administration after the days when freedrive and i-drive stopped public sharing ages ago (wow! Must have been 1998 or something like that...) except for Lufo, I can only offer here to help with the site again.

Just tell me if you think you can use anything that I offered.

Welcome back V-man! 8)
You were long before I was, heh. Though I think it must've been around 2001 not 1998. ;)

All your offers of help above sound great!
If you can up The Hidden Below somewhere or on my ftp, just pm me.

A few days ago I translated some year 2000 descriptions, only that year and 2001 are yet to be done. Our member Lovely said 2001 was done but never sent me it and I get no response from my pms. I'll post again in the forum topic here and if there's no response again, you can have a go at it, thanks.

A simple site for the strategy section is fine, we can provide a small host webspace for anyone who wants to work on it. We can change the design later to make it similar to other sections or for the year pages you can use the current format if you want.

I look forward to hearing from you some more. :)

Scaryfun.

After the initial contact from V-man, I didn't hear from him again. If you're still around buddy, let me know.

Also due to the loss of the former 3dsl webspace, we had to use the other space that we had been planning for Adventure and Strategy Legends sections. We'll have to find a brand new webspace for those. :(

Yes, I'm still around - just had no connection to the net for a few days because of a total failure of my system (damn you M$!) and I'll be off for about another week. I'll contact you again then.

I can help with uploading. My connection is pretty weak (Max upload 13kbs), but I leave my PC on 24/7.

As for the site design problem, just use a free/pre-made template. Theres tons of good templates out there. I might also be able to make logos/banners/small graphic work. Im not the best, but Ill try my best.

V-man, welcome.

You are into abandonware aye? Ever visit "The AbandonWare Ring" forums?

I used to go on their alot. I always have a spot for abandonware on my hard drive and I love em..

But I also love getting new games and not paying too haha I'm so cheap :P

Welcome V-man, I've already seen you're posts around and find you to be very informative.

To stay on topic:
I dont have much strategy stuff, it would be a small section, might mix it with another genre, like strategy/sports and it could get bigger :P

edit: I just realised I said welcome twice.. owell.

@A-mak:

I once was part of the Abandonware Ring with my site. However I don't have the time to keep it running anymore. The last big international community I was in, were the forums at abandonware.org. With some others, I left in a dispute (Nestlesux here at 3dsl tried to circumvent their stupid "new rules" when they "went pure". In my eyes he did so sucessfully, but they were not really happy with that... I think the community died a while later). Currently this is the only games forum which I visit.

Thanks for your compliment! I usually try to help if I can. Well, if anybody wants to start the strategy-section, I'd help with that. But as I already said, I create releases and nothing more. If I had the time, I'd at least try to find the ISOs of the games myself. But meh... It would be best for me, if there was a FTP where I'd download an ISO, rip it properly, compress it, test it out and upload the rip onto the FTP again.

Well, and, uh... Sports is not exactly my favorite computer games section... I'll agree with Churchill there: NO sports! ;)

I'd say: Yes. I already described what I'd like to do. So probably we should first start and compile a list of strategy games, add to it more and more and then see if somebody has some of the games. Does somebody disagree with it?
