I would very much like to enter my school's summer story competition (story is required to be around 15,000 words), but I am really out of ideas. Can anyone please help me with an idea for the plot. The only requirements are that all the characters have to be anthropomorphised animals (ie animals with heavy human characteristics a la Wind in the Willows), and it has to fall into the category of children/young adults literature.
If anyone can post any ideas for a plot (no matter how vague), this would be very much appreciated. Many thanks.

Two animals walk in the forest for mushrooms and they find a strange shiny diamond-like rock there, they bring it home and whoever stays with it for a longer time makes them evil and the whole community gets peeved, then another young animal[vegetarian] steals the rock and throws out somewhere, then the other day he seeses the same rock near his home and brings it to the owl[the smartest animal in the community]. The owl knows a lot about it and tells how to get rid of it...
