Post by kruci »

Just want to say:

unpacking(setup.bat, _unpack.bat) works bad to me, becouse copy *.adx vms\ didint work in win98(copy *.adx vms works, move *.adx vms\ works)

movie addon _unpack.bat, wrong name of archive gr2m.uha -> g2m.uha
music addon _unpack.bat missing:
echo Decompressing "vms\SairumStart.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg"
oggdec -Q "vms\SairumStart.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg" -o "vms\SairumStart.vms.adx_0000000000.wav" > nul
del "vms\SairumStart.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg" > nul

echo Decompressing "vms\Sengen00.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg"
oggdec -Q "vms\Sengen00.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg" -o "vms\Sengen00.vms.adx_0000000000.wav" > nul
del "vms\Sengen00.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg" > nul

Grandia II missing files

Post by bramdez »

It just happened I wanted play AtoMiC_PoTaTo's rip for this great game and I have to admit it works like a charm (after renaming something in the unpack.bat if I remember correctly) until...

... I encountered the same problem referenced by kruci quite some time ago.

Read post:
http://www.legendsworld.net/phpBB/viewt ... ht=grandia

The game crashes right when Roan's about to deliver his speech in the Sairum kingdom because the necessary sound files aren't included in the rip or don't unpack for some unknown reason.

Any chance someone can upload these files or mail them to me. Together they can't be more than a few MB's.

To be more specific. I'm talking about (game folder incl. for easy reference):
vms\SairumStart.vms.adx_0000000000.wav
vms\Sengen00.vms.adx_0000000000.wav
vms\Sengen01.vms.adx_0000000000.wav

Needles to say, the .ogg's will do just fine.

Thanks in advance and kudos to you guys for maintaining such an amazing site!

P.S. I hope you'll excuse me for any unwilling posting errors and the like, this is my very FIRST post to this forum. Yes, really! :D

Looks like nobody cares about Grandia II anymore on these forums, it's been about three weeks since my previous post. Oh, well...

Found out I made a noob's mistake, if you can call it that.
All the necessary files are in fact present in the rip (now no longer downloadable from the site), AtoMiC_PoTaTo just mysteriously left out a few lines from the unpack.bat files.

So, if anybody still has this and still wants to play this most entertaining game, kruci's post actually has all relevant info. Here's what to do:

Edit the movie add-on _unpack.bat and rename g2m.uha to gr2m.uha

Edit the music add-on _unpack.bat and add the missing lines, as referenced by kruci, after the lines with "vms\Sairum.vms.adx_0000000000.wav.ogg" in them.

I encountered no problem with the setup.bat for the main game files under WinXP HE SP2. It should run just fine now.

Only problem I have now is that on my new system the game crashes to a black screen at startup. Muhahahahahahaha, the irony of it all just kills me. I do hear music, though.
Consulted some forums on this issue. Some say to install different video codecs. Personally, I think it's the motherf******g ATI Radeon X1650 that's causing the problem. These ATI cards seem to have serious issues running older games.
The game ran just fine on my old system (pretty sure it didn't have a ATI card installed) and now... nothing.

Anyone have any ideas on the subject? Moderators... anyone? I'm not that familiar with all this anti-aliasing, mipmapping and anisotropic filtering stuff, so any help would be appreciated.

Am I starting to sound slightly desperate?

That's because I am! :x

O.k I have a Radeon 9600 card on XP sp2 - I installed my cd's and played - it works for me but I also think it didn't like the high rez at 32 bit color - does the rip have the "GmConfig.exe" util with it.

This game has heaps of .avi files also and I'd say they are dummy files these will sometime be black while playing for a short period.

EDIT:
Also 30 seconds on google gave me this http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/702/t66 ... irst/2.htm

so it seems it may not be a rip problem at all but infact the game - anyways see if anything there helps at all :?
