Don't think it requires u being online, as online Far Cry won't work anyway. But, "you will need an Ubi.com account and you must live in the U.S. to play the game" according to Gamer's Hell.

That's just for the ubi.com account. Set that to the 'states and it'll work regardless of your IP.

Frankly knowing UBI i never tought they will release something for free....but this is like a 360 turnaround as i see it...
