Are Rips still Rips nowadays ???

Post by hurenBock »

hi

what i mean is the following

as rips get bigger and bigger i ask myself if they can be still called RIPs
sure the process to make a rip is still the same but these dimensions

rips get in MB or lol not MB anymore.......GBs its enormous......unfortunatly.....

and so i would say the main idea behind rips is long gone......
as far as im informed

i tendend to say that a RIP is made to see how small it can be.........in relation to the original ISO

it has something to do with SKILL ( my opinion )
( yeah i know some people still think rips are unofficial demos made by the diffrent groups to give the end user the ability to use the full game as a demo without any limits........just sounds i.e like music, ambient etc

but when they come avaible too for the end user ( THE ADDONS ) lol wheres the point getting an ORIGINAL VERSION as long as you dont want to play online........so this is paradox)

but i think the groups do this cause they want to show how skilled they are
like : look my rip is 200 MB + smaller than yours im 1337 youre a newb..

a fact that confirms that is in example all that stuff about nuked versions etc.......

You can't rip some stuff from games. The time of CDA tracks is gone.
Also, nowadays, alot of developers prefer to put everything in one big or couple of special archieves which are impossible to to work with. This is exactly what devs want - no ripping. So, yeah, you're right, rips are dead.

Rips are getting bigger as games itself are getting bigger. I think with DVD games there's same proportion with a full game size vs. RIP as with CD ones. Take Oblivion for example, there's several gigabytes of textures and audio, even with best compression tools you can't make 200 mb RIP. And today many people got DSL or a cable line, some can snatch DVD-9 images without any hassle, so there's no mass need in cut-down edition anymore.

Yeah, with download speeds as high as they are now, and online storage, ISOs are as easy to download nowadays as RIPs were in the past.

Redundancy and encryption are still used together to bloat sizes. Illusion does this nicely, but due to a crack team of weeaboo individuals they're always undecrypted from 4gb compressed to 200mb compressed and then repacking/re-encrypting again. Nothing ripped, just unencrypted and compressed.

unfortunately no one released such rips like that because it's not "purist" enough

but hey anything's possible

Are you saying that you can RIP-down an Illusion game like Artificial Girl 3 to 200mbs?

yes

120mb if you ogg the uncompressed sounds, and oddly enough the game natively supports ogg format playback itself. (see the point about intentional uncompression to bloat it up)

If you've actually got a RIP of AG3 I'd love top see it. Never bother to download it since my system is so antiquated, but if it's 200mb or less, might as well...

Or were you just using that as an example?

sure the connection speeds get faster and faster and are already much faster than they were a few years ago.........

its right that its almost no problem anymore to get an DVD ISO or regular CDR ISO

with much less time investment.......

but the point is that, would u download an 5 GB DVD ISO
when you can have the RIP thats 4 GB smaller and just logos ripped ?

fact is 1 GB is faster downloaded than 5 GB !

Virgil has a very good point. If the speeds are incredibly high, there's no need for rips anymore and I, frankly, don't get hurenBock's unsatisfaction. RIPS are R.I.P. That's it. :D

yeah thats right they are dead so far in that case

but the point is that 1 GB is faster downloaded than 5 GB.......

if you want to move from A to B and can choose between an half hour
with the train and

2 hours with the bus you choose the train or not ? when the ticket costs the same prize of course.........lol
