Alpha Prime - WTF?

Post by Trey »

Oh my god, are you telling me the developers of this didn't know one native english speaker?! This has to be one of the worst translations since 'All your base are belong to us!', at times it's almost like a Monty Python skit. The voice actors try to work with the material, but you can tell they were just given the script and told, 'Read it!' It's so wooden, and poorly written, at times it's like Japanese 'Engrish'. Did the developers not care about picking up the english audience?

Edit: Wow, finally finished it. You know how people always complain about a game being 'stupid' or it's story being 'stupid'? Usually I just ignore that type of bitching, but this time they were right. It would take a massive rewrite to salvage this game, and I doubt it's really worth it.

I heard quite poistive comments from other gamers about this game, and personally I enjoyed the demo version back in the day. Yes, if the translation and voice acting is bad it hurts the atmosphere and maybe the understanding of the story, but that´s not all that counts.

I started playing this yesterday, and yeah, I think it is a nice game. Level design feels a bit like Chaser, and some visuals & puzzles reminds one of Doom 3. Use of interaction/physics is better than most of its type.

I just tried the US demo, gfx are okay as well as physics, but it was quite buggy (maybe it's because it was the demo).
Anyway, voice acting was really stupid/funny at times but the game itself seems kinda fun to play through... Is it worth getting the full version?

The gameplay's not terrible, but... Oh, my god, that voice acting... Just wait till you run into the guy who's supposed to be, what? Spanish, Portigese? Russian maybe? And the story, sheesh.

I played the demo just recently... and although I grew kind of tired of FPS games I was surprised to find that I enjoyed the demo just because it was so straight forward and didn't try to reinvent the genre like ever damn other shooter out there these days. A refreshing splash of linearity, stereotypes, and trash charm.

I don't remember the voice acting or dialogue as linguistically bad... just the story itself as cheesy, which I really didn't mind. Maybe they chose only the least broken lines for the demo?

Played the full game long time ago, but in the middle it got messed up so I uninstalled it. Game requires more work on it.
