I'm preparing an upload of Chemicus and want to use ECM as it really reduces upload/download/storage, so I made a Chemicus CD 1.bin.ecm file.
Volume ID is Chemicus CD 1, so I made an unecm.bat file: unecm Chemicus CD 1.bin.ecm, but it doesn't do anything.
Tried it out with another CD with Volume ID NEW and there unecm.bat file unecm NEW.bin.ecm worked fine.
Does this have to do with the spaces in the filename? I tried filling the spaces with both periods and underscores, but that didn't work either - obviously.
There is of course a workaround by dragging the .bin.ecm file to unecm.exe, but I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong...

Re: making an unecm.bat file
I can't help you with this problem, nanette, but I think I know who can - Egon68 makes a lot of (nicely working) ECM files.
BTW, I NEVER used any of those unecm.bat files supplied with the games, I always just do as you said:

Thanks Zobraks, but I think I found what I did wrong (apparently I was halfway there already):
I had to change both the .bin.ecm file name to Chemicus_CD_1.bin.ecm and the batchfile to unecm Chemicus_CD_1.bin.ecm
- or anything else, as long as both names are identical and don't have spaces
Makes sense of course and now it works!
EDIT For other newbies struggling with ECM: I had to edit the .cue file too in the same way.
And to make things look better I also changed the name of the .cue file likewise.
Pfff, a lot of changes while there is a perfectly good workaround - I sometimes question my sanity

Usually members ask what's ECM, and we don't give them the answer. But it seems you already know, good.
With one of the game I uploaded, I did like that :That's logical. If there were no quotes Project would be considered as a parameter or something, and IGI.mdf.ecm doesn't exist.
With one of the game I uploaded, I did like that :
Code: Select all
unecm "Project IGI.mdf.ecm" "Project IGI.mdf"
Whyever not? I only found out about ECM this morning and Googled a bit to find the "program". I seem to have grasped the concept of it in the meantime and I'm not exactly Einstein-material....MasteromaN wrote:Usually members ask what's ECM, and we don't give them the answer
I think it should instead be promoted, just for all the advantages it gives!
Sorry if I've broken any rules here, but I honestly don't see in which category this freeware Encoding/Condensing program should be placed
Or is asking a question about for instance Winrar considered a violation too?
BTW Thanks MasteromaN for the tip about using " " in the batchfile; it works great and I don't need to make all these changes anymore!

Actually, the question here pertains to how to make a batch file. In itself, that doesn't have any relation with game hacking/cracking/ripping as you're not using game material per se. So the question is allowed.MasteromaN wrote:I think it belongs to that rule.Do Not Ask Questionable Topics, Like How To Hack, Crack, Upload, Obfuscate, Or Rip. Violators will be warned!

Of course the question here is allowed. I just wanted to say to nanette that I saw in the past a moderator (with a marilyn manson logo
) who said we don't give informations about ECM. For me, it's not hacking/cracking/ripping but just extracting. But since I'm a moderator now, I have to be agree with the other moderator.
