When I read the topic title I already knew who was it's author. I don't know what do you mean with "MAX HZ", but googling for your monitor model specs could help.

just try out higher rates than currently. if your monitor cannot display it, it will start flickering and you will not see anything anymore. but as you might remember, windows sets screen preferences back to previous setting if you don't confirm the new setting after 15 seconds. so waiting 15 seconds without doing anything will revert it...

Is your question meant serious?

I use a good "old" 19"-tube monitor. Tube monitors have the best picture quality, but are getting very seldom in sells.
In Win98/WinXP I do this:
- Right-click on desktop somewhere
- Menu->Properties...<click><click><...>
... Then somewhere you will find the graphic-card properties, where you can modify the monitor resolution and the frequency. Rise it until your (tube?)-monitor shows a strange message. Then you will know that this is too much for it. If you click nothing after 15 seconds the resolution is set to the last state by Windows.
