Couple thoughts on NWN 2...

Post by Trey »

Number one, what a systems hog. It's got to be a poorly designed engine, I can't believe how much memory and processing power this is sucking up. For comparison TimeShift, which came out last year runs perfect on here, no tweaking required, NWN2 which came out 2 years ago stutters and sputters even with many of the usual problem effects shut off. Also I'm not very impressed with the new interface, I just got the old 'wheel' one down, now they've come up with a new one that's even less intuitive than the 'wheel'. Then I made the mistake of letting the auto-updater update the game to 1.13, only problem is there hasn't been a No-DVD patch since 1.11... so I'm screwed. I'm going to have to uninstall, then reinstall, and update by hand.

Unless someone knows of a v1.13 NoDVD patch? Anyone?

When I first started playing this I absolutly hated it. It's grown on me now and I'm meerly disappointed by it. I don't like the interface, or the view, sure you can zoom right up to the characters but the view controls aren't intuitive, and I still haven't found a mode I'm happy with. It make me long for the simple overhead view... The story is okay, but it's so linear. There's not much exploration involved. The lack of enviromental interaction is distressing too. In the old AD&D games you could enter every house whether it was part of the story or not, you could open every barrel or box. In this game only the things directly related to the story can be interacted with, so sometimes you can open a door, sometimes you can look in a box, it's annoying.

This game construct seems like a dud to me. I would have been much happier if they had just revamped the original Neverwinter Nights engine to allow for larger parties and better environments...
