I'm wondering if I should dl OP Flashpoint?

Post by arcadecrawler »

I remember playing the demo years ago and I liked it.

But I am in a 3rd world country, so it'd be a huge bite of my cap, I'm not sure if I'd like it.

I didn't really like Ghost Recon or games that are too serious or difficult.
It is kinda old too, so I'm wondering if it's stood the test of time.

I still see ppl speaking favorably about it on other boards, please discuss, thanks.

the best LOL mod is Lego: Operation Flashpoint

Operation Flashpoint is more "serious" and "difficult" than Ghost Recon.

It was ugly even when released.

It's a game that is obviously going to be best played online, if you don't have friends to play it with, or are only interested in single-player, I wouldn't bother.

I wouldn't bother... dude you don't know what you are missing ... a 31 mission campaign where you take the roles of 4 men : a private that seen his first combat and later escaped with the resistance in a truck , a commando that was send there to find Russian nukes , a black crazy raper tank commander that loves to rap his way in his tank and a veteran pilot first transporting soldiers in a heli then bombing the sh1t in a A-10 and later in a Comanche... the best FPS campaign to date that no other Fps could repeat it again

Hmmn it's possible that GR wasn't designed well? Not sure? I could also be getting it mixed up with another game? (Global Operations). I'm sure I completed a few stages of the OF demo back in the day and it might have been tough but I thought it was fun.

It sounds great, I'll try not to get my hopes to high but I def want to get it still.

I think I will play it online it sounds perfect for me, I kinda like old games, do you have to have the original disk to play it online?

Been struggling to get a hold of one for a while now.

I really appreciate your comments I_AM and hfric, thanks.
I also want to try the Vietcong series those games also sound cool?

I didn't mind the blackhawkdown game or Swat 4 if that helps at all? lol

Vietcong1 and 2 where and are cool games , they also have nice story missions but those games panned because they where not optimized for PCs back then in the P4 era but now in Dual Core land they work great

EDIT : sry forgot to mention that great mod ive found a while ago...
its no TC but it adds much nice features to the already existing great gameplay of OFP...... first off absolutley outstanding weapon sounds.......
originally made by " SATCHEL " but they tweaked them a bit so they are even better than the almost most perfect ones from SATCHEL...

and theres stuff like realistic dropped blood splats..... some new effects, but dont expect PS 3.0 stuff or HDR lightning fx... it includes dynamic sound fx..... means more and intense battle chatter

however, i guess you dont have a high end machine like most of us ( if i can say that without getting flamed ) löl........

believe the mods name was " ECP "
however i put the link in here.......

LINK: http://operationflashpoint.filefront.co ... ject;70118

tank sounds....... i.e for the engine etc......

first, i ignored all other posts cause i want to provide you an objective answer.....

first off, u should like > sims ( simulations ) u should like , > ( military war games which are MUCH based on realism !

in most cases you`ll shoot the enemy over distances like 200-250 meters...... its possible to hit a target thats 300- 350 or even 400 meters away but thats almost impossible without any luck ( unless you use a sniper rifle )........ and if a enemy is far away and is strafing ( u know running left or right out of your sights, not running straight away or to you ) so if hes strafing and the bigger the distance you should.... i.e

if hes running away from you to the left and the distance is 200 meter
you must aim lets say a half CM forward at a empty spot so that hes running in the ballistic line.....

generally you kill a enemy with 1-2 in some cases 3 shots ( head - dead , torso - 1-2 shots ,upper torso also 1- shot, legs , 2 -3 )

this info depends on using a AK 47 / 74, or M16 A2 ,Assault rifle , and M60 MG ,USMC ,
PKM MG, RUSSIAN ....

if you like all these types of genres / games your ready to go playing OFP
and youll like it dude........ more than that....... i guess........ youll love it.......beside idk how often i played that game through ( all 3 campaigns )

( Cold War , Red Hammer , Resistance Campaign ( dl the addons too this doubles the fun....... but imo the USMC campaign was the best one...

this game kicks ass you can use every mobile stuff from both US and RUSSIAN forces, from tank to helicopter from jeep with a mounted machine gun to standalone MG`s ........ transport trucks........ civil cars......

well like i said if you like all that stuff its more than worth it youll have hours of fun while playing this game.......

its an awesome title, more than good and really worth every cent / penny you spend...... / MB you download löl.......

however, you decide but I SAY you wont regret it ! imo....... but dont whine if youre dead after 1-2 maybe 3 hits and you dont even know who or what hit you...... watch out, always try to stay low..... during firefight or at the begin of those immediatly drop down on the ground and prone...

look if you see any hostile forces...... if so shoot them but not to long dont stay at youre postion while shooting 2 mags at the enemy of youll be dead meat...... i mean ........ shoot......5-10-15 rounds, then scan horizon, stand up run , and get prone as soon as you reach the next object providing cover....... and use the binoculars if you got some.....

if you see one with your binoculars ( theres a special key with which you can inform the postion of the enemy so the AI buddys will know it too, shot in single shots at a distance of 200 - 300 meter , burst shots are effective at the same range..... but they produce a heavier recoil so aim carefully....... if an enemy`s near ( less than than 100 - 150 meters use full automatic fire.... but try not to fire the whole mag in automatic fire

also shot 4-5 round bursts
and always try to aim at the legs feet / kneecaps because of the recoil
using that method the bullets will hit the enemy in the torso/ upper torso, or stomach
where 1-2 shots are to 90 percent lethal... dead guarantee`s

and remember, automatic fire`s just avaible when you carry an AK 47 or ak 74 assault rifle

the m16 just provides single shot or 3 shot burst......

and grenades are not really usefull unless youre very near at the enemy......( 50-max 75 meters to be sure youre using an effeftive radius just like in real life i mean you cant / wont through a nade
100 meters far........ löl sure thing aint it ?

just remember this game is completly based on realism its definitve no arcade gameplay.......

or the tanks if you carry an LAW, RPG always try to hit the back of the tank cause thats the real weak spot..... because the armor is very thin at the rear side.......

if you shoot a T 80 or M1 Abrahams at the front armor plate you`ll need 4-5 hits eventually more......unless you use an special AT rocker launcher

but from the rear 2-3 rockets and the crew is fukked and the tank`s history......

BMP`s ( RUSSIAN SIDE ) just need 1 rocket / RGP / LAW hit
and USMC, M60 tanks will need 2 rockets shot at the turret or back...

ok enough talk..... and as we all know talk is cheap so play and decide.......
but i say try it its worth it for sure bud.........

Yeah, I ran into info for ECP mod before. Now that I'll be adding more mods to 3dsl every week, it will eventually get added there as well.

Wow, thanks hurenBock very, very descriptive review or should I say mini FAQ? Yeah this game is def going to take a little effort to get into but I'm sure it'll be worth it, atmosphere is really good.

Anyway I bought the GOTY edition in a store it has the original game and 2 expansions, I played it a bit so far so good.

Will def dl a few mods for it though.

if you prefer decent mods then ECP mod will be the one youre looking for

but if you like TC`s i cant give you a hint since ive never played a TC for OFP

btw OFP RESISTANCE has a real nice campaign but its more or less for the
ofp players with expierence

OFP GOTY Edition: probably the greatest purchase in my gaming career. No other game has absorbed more of my time. If you're even remotely interested in decent sim games/FPS/wargames/sandbox/etc. then you must play this.

The number of mods, campaigns and add-ons for this game is pretty much staggering and there's some pretty cool stuff out there. As hfric already mentioned: you can play a LEGO mod! Even with Armed Assault around, the game's community is still alive. That should tell you something.

Take a look around the Net for OFP stuff and start here:
http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?sekce=news

I promise you WON'T be disappointed.
