So following Titanic I thought I'd give Redjack a whirl since it's also made by Cyberflix. I'm trying to play this game (I got RJ from this site) on VirtualPC2007 with Windows XP. Problem is it keeps giving me errors. The error usually says something to the effect of:
Sorry, a non-recoverable error has occured. Please consult the ReadMe file for more information.
The last Windows system error was: Unknown (code 435)
Choose "OK" to return to Windows.
I tried googling for a similar error but couldn't find anything. I've burnt this to a cdr first. Tried playing that way. Didn't work. I first got this error when I'd try to save the game while playing with cdr. Then I tried playing it off of daemon tools and didn't even get past the cyberflix logo because I got the same error but with a different source file. Maybe there's something wrong with the game? I'm not sure, but I've tried it both ways on cdr and off and I'm still getting errors.
This game looks fun though. I got all the way up to the part where the guy was going to teach me how to fight with the sword (without saving mind you) and when I was about to actually "fight" with the guy the game just conked out and gave me the error. At that time I was playing from the cdr. But it still doesn't make any difference cause I can't save or get past that part.
I looked up the minimum requirements for this game and it seems to have been programmed for Win95/98. WinXp and Win2000Pro are based on the NT architecture and access hardware differently than earlier versions of the os. So basically what I'm saying is that you should use either Win95 or 98 in VPC2k7 for this game, maybe you'll have better results.

I tried both of those in the compatibility tab and I still got those errors.
Before when I first installed VPC I installed Windows 98 on it. But I had problems with it and couldn't get the sound to work. So I had to switch and use Win XP as my virtual OS. With XP I have sound. So unless I can somehow get the sound to work with 98 I won't be able to use it with VPC. (And I have no idea how to get it the sound to work on 98. And my host comp is Vista 32.) It's been a long time but I don't think I have a Win 95 disc anymore and even if I found one I doubt the sound would work since it didn't work on 98.
Then you are basically stuck. If you can not get Win98/SE/ME to work, you've basically run out of options for this particular game. In Windows versions prior to the NT architecture taking over, the applications (and thus games) accessed the hardware directly. This no longer happens and some games have huge problems with it. (I know I previously stated the above, but if you want to play this game you'll have to find some way to get sound working in your VPC2k7 Win98 installation. And since there seems to be virtually non-existent interest in this game on the web for a more feasible workaround.) The only other option I've seen is to track down the MAC version of the game and run that in an emulator.

Since I ran out of options and for the hell of it I installed it directly on Vista and used Win95 in compatibility mode. I've been playing it ever since. No problems yet (knock on wood). It's a bit of a head scratcher why it would work on Vista with compat., but not XP with compat. But at least it's working.
