DLC a ripoff?

Post by DoctorShark »

I think that the recent rise in popularity with downloadable content has given the game companies a license to dig into our pockets even more. hell when i bought resistance brand new it only cost me 30 bucks, but after the add on maps it rose to 43 dollars. Now i understand that i don't have to purchase this content, but to me it feels like my game isn't whole without it. Also it seems to me that it should have been with the game in the first place, but the greedy little assholes decided what's a little more money among friends. Maybe i'm blowing this way out of proportion :| what do you think ?

well, you don't have to buy, correct....
but if you really like the game, you probably will.

i think DLC is not even the final way it will be, but free2play games with premium features will rise to much higher popularity.

There's a couple of good articles here -

I guess it depends on what the DLC is...whether it's additional missions which take the place of expansion packs like the Fallout 3 DLCs then it may be worth it. If it's stuff like the infamous Oblivion horse armour or cheat codes that unlock content already shipped in the game (which is now becoming a habit for developers) then it's a ripoff. Guitar Hero extra tracks might be good as people can get which songs they like.
