Long term archive

Post by stf-06 »

This week end I have been checking all my old CD backups (dating back 1995 for the oldest!) and was horrified to get around 30% failure while trying to copy them :o
Fortunatly, most of them I can get back from here, but not all (like Heimdal 2 with audiotracks).
And last week I had a crash with a USB hard disk and lost 30GB of series episodes (fortunately the rest of the disk is still readable)...
So I was wondering what was your long term archiving strategy! Multi backup on DVD, RAID disk? Do you know if Solid State disk are more reliable?
Thank you!

30Gb is nothing. Ppl loose a few TBS all the time. :D No big deal, just get the shotgun and pull the trigger, gently

I store my backups as:
2 External hard drives (same content) and DVD-Rs (same content as the hard drives)
Some people are like slinkies... They're not really good for much but they do bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
