New database site versions & upgraded forum on Aug 14/01

For the past 3 months, we have been working on converting our sites strictly html pages of game entries with Java index to a much easier to use database version. Our big thanks go to loki1985 for creating the database and being able to extract the infos from our current game entries into database fields. Most of it came out ok but some infos could not be correctly extracted partly because of some errors in our current index so some information had to be re-added by hand into the database. Hopefully we corrected any missing infos but if anyone spots something wrong or missing, please let us know. We have kept the look of the site pretty similar to before, just the internals are improved.

The database sites will have the following advantages:
- much easier and quicker entry of new data to the sites with automatic page generation without worrying about manual html errors
- visitors can now view one game entry at a time (from news page game links or from index) for those who don't want to load the whole year page of entries
- multiple site updaters can be used if we get volunteers and no technical knowledge will be needed as it's only a matter of adding infos in the correct fields
- easier automatic linking of mods/tc's on 3DSL to their original games
- on 3DSL we are ordering the entries on year pages by alphabetical order instead of date of release as was already done on Adventure Legends since more people find it easier to browse the page that way
- game covers will be automatically resized bigger

Our webmaster also is upgrading our forum to phpBB version 3 which adds improved features and security. Some new phpBB mods were also added. The new features that visitors will notice are:
- new logo created by hfric
- new forum icons for message infos, etc.
- shows in forum posts if user is currently online
- instant chat feature for registered members
- one-click Thanks and shows for each member how many times they've been thanked to better see who contributes in forum
- can click check-mark icon in post to indicate problem was solved (useful for Game Support and Broken Downloads sections)
- visitors can now report to moderators a post or private message that's offensive or breaks the forum rules simply by clicking the "!" icon
- easy for moderators to warn or ban users for breaking forum rules and keep track of a user's reported actions
- can search within one topic in addition to by section and whole forum

The site and forum will be down during the weekend when the changes are being installed so please be aware and patient. We hope you all enjoy the new additions and let us know of any problems you encounter.

or enter it in the search box.
Download links are currently not working. We will let you know in news when that's fixed.

Nice to see the new forum online. I like it.

I've noticed that when you view a post there is no way to return to the main forum other than clicking the back button in the browser. Can this be changed?

For example:

Situation now: "Game Requests -> Help me find a game"

I prefer to see it like this: "Legends World Forum -> Game Requests -> Help me find a game"

Hello. Looking Good. Might it be possible now to spin off RPG games from Adventure Legends into RPG legends and the Simulations from 3D shooter into Simulation Legends and maybe reconsider the idea that has been discussed in the past about a Strategy site?

Guess the DL links at Advent/3DShoot also need the redirectors to be updated? All xcited tried to dl 'Blackstone Chronicles' from Advent but only got the mess 'No links found at the specified mirror'. :(
Oh, and I used the 'A to Z' index locating the game.

In User Control Panel, I find one background color too clear, and the round corners let appear another background. The colors of members online are also all the same. And I don't like the green online thing over names or avatars. I'd prefer a little green square instead. But that's just my opinion.
