Re: Rapidshare has a timer again...
To be fair to RS, they had to implement something. Basically what they had going was a marketing ploy to get more people to use their service. And now that MU has been forcefully shut down (which has had a cascade effect on other services as we have witnessed), they are seeing a flood of users from those other services and their bandwidth being squeezed heavily. To cut this short, it's no surprise that they did this.

Yeah, I'm sure there usage is way up now. No need to give it away for free anymore.

Meanwhile I'm using premium link generators, so I don't care about it...

It became even worst, only 30 kb/s. Why bother with this rapidshare (in spanish rapid = fast)? They should be named Slowshare.

The free download speed seems to vary wildly, probably depending on the traffic. Last night I downloaded a link and got desent speeds 200+kbs.

Want to know something even worst? Rapidshare now ask you your data (email, address, blog or webpage where there are the links) to know if they are ilegal. They say that they want to kick out the hackers and pirates from their service. If you want to increase your speed you must give them that information!
This is from TorrentFreak:

So no way you can download with good speeds like before, at least you want to to be at your own risk."What this means is that uploaders of content will have to provide RapidShare with details on the nature of their account including what type of files they’re sharing, the name of the sites and blogs where the download links are getting posted, and the uploader’s email address and telephone number."

R$ was one of the first popular hosters, so they've filled their pockets already a long time ago. They can afford to do these kind of things.
R$ clearly wants to distance itself from piracy, the thing that made them rich in the first place. On the other hand it's a good thing to do in order to survive.
