So Earthsiege 2 claims to be Win 3.x compatible on european boxes, but not the US one's I have seen. Scans of the euro covers can be seen at mobygames.
I find this interesting due to the fact that the US release requires direct X, which never had a Windows 3.1 release. This would suggest that the euro version was either ported back to WinG, or people who claim to have played it in windows 3.1 are all mass hallucinating.
The ISO linked here is the US version. Anyone have any insight to this?

Re: Earthsiege 2
I've played the rip version from old-games.ru, seems to be European version (has both English and German language). Looks like it's indeed a port for Win95/98, plus there's a DirectX installer included as well.

Re: Earthsiege 2
ya, all versions scrounged up byoldgamesfinder are w95 versions. However 5thhorseman claims he has one that has 16 bit win3x executables but that he couldn't get it running is dosbox. I've requested a copy from him to try myself. I find it very strange that a win3.1 version even exists. I think that is one of the only direct x games I have ever come across that also has a WinG port.

Re: Earthsiege 2
I'm betting a budget version is going to be a later release (and therefor focused on w95), but I'll take a look.
edit: wow, sure enough it has win3.1 files on it.
How strange that the budget release would add it in. That suggests they were targeting win 3.x, but left it out due to time constraints and then had the opportunity to add it back in.
Unfortunately, even with win32s, win6, svn daum, and whatever other tricks I have going, it still gives a vshell.exe error on launch. But it's def. a good start considering the last version wouldn't start at all.
