That worked, basetta. Just placing catspaw's two files in the Binaries folder got the thing to stop bitching at me, and update.
Just to point out to everyone, to get the game looking the best it will look, bump up all the graphics options to max, and place the postprocessing preset to Vivid instead of Default, then exit the game. Open your GPU's control panel and create a application profile for the game, forcing the highest form of AA you can. Save the profile. Then go to Documents --> My Games --> Gears of War for Windows --> WarGame --> Config and open WarEngineUserSettings.ini. Change 'MotionBlur=True', 'DepthofField=True', 'Bloom=True', and 'QualityBloom=True' and change those to say 'False'. Save the .ini file.
While you're in the Config folder, it's highly recommended you open up WarInput.ini and change 'bEnableMouseSmoothing=True" to 'bEnableMouseSmoothing=False' to turn off mouse acceleration (mouse smoothing and mouse acceleration are not the same, and I don't know why Epic labeled what feels very distinctly like mouse acceleration, 'mouse smoothing'. Mouse smoothing is a different thing entirely, and it annoys the piss out of me when devs can't get that right. But yes, to those that aren't aware, mouse acceleration is godawful and makes your mouse movements very imprecise. When you're done making this change, save the .ini file. Feel free to close both files and play the game, which now has better lighting via the Vivid preset, while not having the overdone bloom effect that that preset had (and even the Default preset had this problem), and without having to deal with ugly motion blur. You're welcome, everyone.
