File Compresser

Anyone know of a good file compresser that can save a lot of memory for a ftp?? Because I got 2 3.16gig folders and I need to compress those to atleast a gig or so (whatever works really) so i can upload these to my ftp.. any suggestions would be great..

WinRAR is compressing almost as good as uhar, but is much faster. Gotta be around 3 times faster or so.

yeah, RAR rocks the boat in most cases. UHAs are far slower and doesnt even offer significant improvement most of the time, just like 7-zip. same case for decompression.

so tell me this why so many rips are compresed in uhar hmmm ...

7Zip is good also...best compression i've seen so far...and to respond to your last question...some rips use uharc compression for audio data mostly...from what i've seen...i might be wrong

Uharc is still a little bit better.. and rips are done under strict rules. So every kb is important. But uharc's effect is that packing and unpacking will take far longer than other formats.

Heh...today's rips are a mess :D...ive seen rips from small sizes to 400+ mb...what are todays rules btw :?:

7-zip doesnt have recovery options, or at least thats what i saw from using the program (which i dont do often).

Sure it does! I used it for my worms fort under siege rip and it compressed better than uharc.

Well it depends on the files you have to compress but uharc and 7zip are almost always giving the same result.

i based my opinion on features tradeoff and recovery option is definitely something i consider when dealing with massive files to compress. and btw, 7-zip may require helluva lot of RAM but thats dependant on settings though, so hopefully, you have it. no idea on UHARC.
