I think numbering used to make sense, as timelines were more linear. Now we have reboots, rehashes, prequels, expansions, semi-continuations, timelines, multiple continuities. Retcons! Canon and non-canon tried to clear things up but the multiverse muddied up everything again.
Like, Halloween movie franchise has 12 or 13 now, with all its branching timelines.

ah i see, it confused me when searching Rainbow Six Vegas all i got was Vegas 2, never mind I just thought it was a typo..
