Steam is dropping Windows 7 support
A bit unfortunate, as Windows 7 was the bridge between old games and relative modern hardware in terms of compatibility .

Re: Steam is dropping Windows 7 support
Then I will also drop support for Steam lmao. I know, I know, they couldn't care less but don't use it that much anyways. As per usual these days, seems like the 7 seas is the answer to most of these conundrums.

Re: Steam is dropping Windows 7 support
Steam now is a Joke ... imagine they got like 55% of theirs whole backlog of games not supporting Win11 ... Win7 was the only way to run those games , since it had WinXp Api in it ... older MumboJumbo HOGs will not work on Win11 since Win11 missing Dx 1-9 backwards compatibility support ... you want to play Heroes of the Annihilated Empires on Win11 , well then forget about Sound\Music\Movies since this game drivers do not work in Win10\11 ...
Guess they forced themselves with this os when they made the Steamdeck...

Re: Steam is dropping Windows 7 support
In efforts to "respects the privacy of its online visitors and customers", does Steam keep the computer mic off when you're shopping for games ?Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome

Good advertisement for GoG / No DRMs / offline gamingAlthough support won't end until 2024, we strongly encourage all Windows 7/8/8.1 users to update sooner rather than later. Microsoft ended security updates and technical support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and for Windows 8.1 in January 2023. Computers running these operating systems, when connected to the internet, are susceptible to new malware and other exploits which will not be patched. That malware can cause your PC, Steam and games to perform poorly or crash. That malware can also be used to steal the credentials for your Steam account or other services.

Re: Steam is dropping Windows 7 support
Solution for now
https://www.old-games.ru/forum/threads/ ... st-1893607
I expect the workaround to stop working sometime in 2024, like the various Windows XP workarounds did.

I believe you were able to install steam and even buy games on Windows 7 with steam up until now.

Re: Steam is dropping Windows 7 support
Looks like there is a new method to install it now. This one seems more straightforward than the other guides for it.
