patched to 1.01... nope
1.02... nope
turned off DEP...still nothing
turned off all DRM in WIN7 with Bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff ... still nothing
Tried to run it in compatibility mode with all possible combinations ... still nothing
all is fudge
i cannot believe that a game from 2006 is not compatible with win7 no more , damn

I agree with freakboy.
Get rid of the 64bit stuff. Only young dopey newbies with lot of money sponsored by daddy but without the faintest idea buy PCs with overclocked multicore CPUs and install this obfuscated W7-64.
I have no problem running old and new WIN-based games on my PC - WXP-SP2-32Bit, 4(3.5)GB RAM, AMD-Athlon2-4core-2.9GHz, Nvidia 250GTX-512MB/256Bit.

That's really unfair.. I like Win7x64 and I'm not a young dopey noob bankrolled by daddy. I didn't actually spend any money on Windows, so it's not a huge deal. If you don't want to get rid of Win7x64 but want to play old titles, just dual boot the machine. A little extra pain for playing what you want shouldn't be that big of a hurdle.

actually i just played it for about 30 minutes. all i had to do was drop the openal32.dll in the directory with the exe. i didn't even set compatibility options on it.
i used the dvd version with patch 1.01 applied if it makes any difference.
i also didn't mess with any graphics options, but the game is fun so you soon forget about how it looks.
the openal32.dll from dll-files works fine.
on a related note about games with issues on win7x64, if you have a mind to play need for speed underground 2 on it, install the demo first and then the full game and it works great after that.

meddle, please don't get me wrong, but why do you think the install process of the 32Bit demo version will influence the running process of the full version on 64bit? How can you associate these different things into one context?
For me it seems your opinion is influenced and mislead by the colourfullness and superficiality which W7-64 offers.

My friend gave me his laptop with Win764 a couple of times, but it is not compatible with lots of softwares. Id rather have compatible OS than shiny incompatible OS. I turn off all the fancy crap anyway.Trey wrote:I'm running Win7 64 here too. I haven't tried too many older games since I installed, but haven't had much trouble getting stuff to run. Of course it's Ultimate so it's got about as much comatabilty as it's ever going to have.

well the thing is 99% of old games work FINE on win7 64bit even old forgotten windows tittles , those 1% that don't work are those that use Sound drivers written for 32bit like OPENALL32 games or use EAX [some work some don't] and Install shield games that have a windows 32bit lock [a fine example is Star Wars: Force Commander install shield is locked to 32bit os and you can't install this game but the rip works fine ]freakboy wrote:My friend gave me his laptop with Win764 a couple of times, but it is not compatible with lots of softwares.
