Mega problema
Because I'm using Window XP, the download site named "Mega" doesn't allow me to download files anymore...
It simply needs a browser update but no browser updates for XP (I tried all of them). As far as I can see, all game download sites, including LegendsWorld, uploading the new games to this site. I have to admit, Mega is very useful and fast and I was very happy with it until now.
Is there anything I can do other than the "change your operating system"? Otherwise, I will no longer be able to download dozens of games from here and my archiving days will be end. Some files are only available on Mega and nowhere else.
I repeat, I don't want to change my operating system and I won't. I am open all other suggestions you can give to me except of this.

Re: Mega problema
Best one can do is to switch the browser's user agent (this is yer device's basic properties sent at the website's request by the browser for identification) - either manually, or by using a browser plugin (just
fer "user agent switcher", can't miss 'em, then find the latest XP-compatible versions of those)
Also, it is recommended to NOT download from MEGA using the browser, as the blob: protocol used by the service will force the browser to eat up RAM faster than a human can eat an Eti Yami candybar (see better solution below)

Not sure if it'll work that well based on me rant above (and also 'cause China spyware) - better off modifying more popular browsers for improving support insteadmyloch wrote:Try installing Maxthon browser and retry.

Recommending MegaBasterd instead (can download multiple files at once, plus has usable proxies, although MEGA itself seems to have been cracking down on no-account limit bypasses latelyroioros wrote:You can try using "JDownloader"

Re: Mega problema
You can try to use MyPal:
It's a browser maintained and current for Windows XP:
I tried it on Windows 8.1, it seems to work fine with downloading files from Mega.
Code: Select all

Re: Mega problema
The error message I get when I try to run the program is;
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application."
I guess this MyPal is actually a Firefox mod. Because I see the same error after installing the last update Firefox released for XP, it doesn't work either by giving this error message. I wonder if something is missing in my system? What error is this "0xc0000142"?
By the way, the message I got while trying to enter Mega is this;
"Your browser seems a bit outdated
Please update to the latest version or switch to a recommended browser.
Our recommended browsers fully support MEGA's advanced HTML5 functionality, quickly add support for new web standards and provide timely security updates."
So it doesn't even let me enter the site for trying download...

Re: Mega problema
I just installed and tested MyPal on the Windows XP VM made by Molitor:
- The progam installs and runs fine
- Downloading this file from Mega.nz went OK
No problems here.

Re: Mega problema
No, same error...
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application."
I installed all third party applications but nothing happened, giving the same error as all other new version browsers available... except Flashpeak Slimjet Version 10.0.13.0 ( based on Chromium 50.0.2661.75 ) and Mozilla Firefox ( 47.0.2 ). I am currently using these two browsers by necessity but I can't enter Mega with these two since late 2020.
Anyway, thanks Terje, you are so helpful.

Re: Mega problema
Sounds like a system corruption error, or you may be running an old CPU with unsupported instructions (unlikely).
Im guessing you have tried the vague solutions here
Method 2: Change the value of LoadAppInit_DLLs
https://techcult.com/fix-application-error-0xc0000142/
Some being more spam, than genuine solutions.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \Windows\LoadAppInit_DLLs
Double click LoadAppInit_DLLs and change the value from 1 to 0.
My XP VM didnt even have that entry, unless I'm in the wrong place.

My XP VM already have all of the runtimes installed, so that might fix it.

"...or you may be running an old CPU with unsupported instructions"
This might be... this is my system;
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Dual Core 3GHz Processor, 512MB ATI RadeonHD 4200 Videocard With Catalyst 13.1 Drivers, RealtekHD Soundcard, Kingston 3GB DDR3 Ram, Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 Motherboard, Cooler Master Case With 300W Power Supply, NEC 17" LCD Monitor, Noktai Stereo Speakers, USB Q Keyboard, A4 PS2 Mouse, LG And Asus SATA DVD Writers, 150GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA HDD, Scientific Atlanta Cable Modem, English Version 32Bit Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Service Pack 3.
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \Windows\LoadAppInit_DLLs
Double click LoadAppInit_DLLs and change the value from 1 to 0."
Now I tried it, restarted the machine and then tried to enter this basilisk browser again. But no effect, same error.
"My XP VM already have all of the runtimes installed, so that might fix it."
All of these runtimes are installed to my system but no luck, nothing. An interesting point is that this game called "You Are Empty" that I saw on your system, once worked on my computer without any problems, now it doesn't work either. Something is wrong, but I don't know what is. My Windows was last formatted 11 years ago. Probably format time has come, but now I have neither time nor patience nor desire to deal with it.
Greetings.

Re: Mega problema
A reinstall would probably help unless it is some hardware compatibility issue.
There is a SP4 unofficial patch for Windows XP which is quite popular, but that might break your system.
