Do i have to be connected right to the router to make a new connection because i tried and i keep failing my computer dosn't connect to the wireless router unless i drill a hole in my floor to the basement and get a long lan wire hocked into the router erm something
BTW i wanna make my own connection so i can get internet on my Playstation 3

Have you set up your router OK? Check the manual/CD that comes with the router and in my experience it's easiest to do that at first with a cable.
If distance is a problem, maybe you can borrow a laptop...
If all is correct you can make the wireless connection.
Don't forget the security - preferably WPA2
BTW, the access to your router is NOT your own IP adress, it varies according to the make of the router - that should also be found in hte manual/CD. Failing that check the website of your routermanufactorer

Wireless routers are usually locked and encrypted, WEP I think. I assume this is your own router. Usually your wireless cards software will tell you info about the router, if it's locaked and encrypted. You'll have to log onto the router, usually with a password or some other code. If you have another wireless computer hooked up to this router you should be able to get all that from the other computers connection properties.
