Curse of Atlantis: Thorgal's Quest

Post by Arminius »

Did anybody else have problems with this image file?
Did anybody manage to burn this image to CD successfully?

I unpacked it, unecmed it (checked out OK), but when I tried to
burn it to CD using Alcohol 120% it gave me the message:

"Unrecognised file format for recording!
Please insert a recognised image file for recording!"

Downloaded it all over again with the same result.

Has Alcohol Soft modified its .mdf file format so image files created
with newer versions Alcohol 120% are no longer compatible with older
versions of Alcohol?

I wouldn't know, I never burn images anymore. I just mount them in Daemon Tools. I'll check out the image when I get home tonight.

If its just a simple image without audio or drm etc. then just resave it to iso with ultraiso or similar...

If it's got audio tracks some programs can't burn it, some will burn it, but leave out the audio tracks. I use 'Power ISO' to burn those.

As far as I can tell it doesn't have any audio tracks, however Daemon-Tools will mount it, it can be opened in UltraISO, and all the data can be copied to the HDD without a hitch.. My advice is just to use UltraISO to convert the image to something else; bin/cue, iso, or clonecd; and then burn it. I have v1.9.2 (build 1705) of Alcohol 120% and it refuses to burn the image as well, my guess is that it was made with daemon tools, and A120% doesn't like that format at all. Don't bother trying to burn it with UltraISO either, just use it to convert the format. FYI, I converted it to bin/cue and it burns fine using Nero. Good luck. =)

Ok thanks for the info.

I used UltraISO to convert the .mdf file to the CloneCD image format, burned it to CD, and everything works. At first I thought it might be a copy protected game like some other Cryo/Adventure Company games but now I don't think this one is.

I was never quite sure how reliable programs like UltraISO are when it comes to converting images of copy protected games from say .mdf/.mds to .img/.ccd/.sub. Its probably worth burning a few coasters to find out for sure.

I never burn older games. I use Daemon, and have had no problems.

I think Meddle is right. I came across a few more .mdf files that had the same problem recently. The .mdf files created with Daemon Tools are not burnable by A120% although I had no problem mounting them in A120%.

I'm a bit old fashioned. I am not really happy unless I have the game burned to CD, but I do back up the downloaded image files as well.

I only install A120% for the specific purpose of burning the CD then off it comes again and I restore the registry back to what it was prior to the installation. Alcohol's uninstall routine leaves too much junk in the registry for my liking.

I'm going to give Daemon Tools a try but seeing I play these games on a Win98SE box it means I'll have to use version 3.47.

Have you tried the freeware ImgBurn? I don't burn much, but I don't recall any problems with it

Thanks for the tip nannette. I never tried that one before.

I installed it and one thing I noticed is that it doesn't have the advanced features that Alcohol has like burning in RAW mode to make copies of copy protected discs. Aside from that it looks like a nice app.

Yeah, I love ImgBurn but it won't burn multi track things, like images with seperate audio tracks.

I've had some good luck with CDBurnerXP, but I don't know how many different image formats it supports. Usually I just use Nero if I need to burn something on a cd.
