Half-Life 1 multi-player without STEAM...???

...Is it possible to play HL1 on-line without that annoying STEAM???

I have an account and also the original version of HL1, but STEAM became a pain in the ass and I just had to uninstall it and quit HL1 multiplayer

I never had any problem with the old WON, I could allways get connected to any server to start playing (even with a 56k connection).
