Trying to clone game cd...

Post by Trey »

So, I got a copy of 'Deer Hunt Challenge' an EA Sports hunting game from 1999. It's not my thing, but I know people like those games so I figured I'd make a clone of it to up. It's protected by SafeDisc 1.30.010, and has been resisting attemps to copy it... A120% gives me read errors, CloneCD ran for 14 minutes and only finished 2%... What's the deal with this game?

I thought maybe the disc was bad, but I was able to get it to install after running the exe on the disc in Win98 compatability mode.

Safedisc uses read errors as its protection method. It will probably take a long time to make an image of the disc.. You didn't give Alcohol 120% / CloneCD enough time to do its job. So yes the read errors are normal with that protection. It may take an hour or more to make the image. For example it took me more than 45 minutes to make a clone of the protected disc of Revenant.

Make sure you have the options "fast error skip" and "ignore read errors" turned on.

The speed of extraction also depends on the drive. I had a Plextor once which read through those errors very fast like it was normal data. With the drives I had recently it takes a lot more time.

I got copies of Ultimate Hunt Challenge I made back in 2000, but I can't
guarantee they're perfect. Source was retail, but my skills were a bit
primitive back then.

To copy a media one doesn't have to be Einstein. Anyway, SafeDisc is very easy to clone these days. But back in 2000 not every drive could do that, unfortunately. Let's wait for Trey. :D

I remember how once screwed up cloning...
