looking for: special doom WAD/port collection

Post by loki1985 »

hi folks!

years ago, on the old forum, there was a link to some special doomsday-based WAD collection presented as a ready2go installer (just the original WADs needed to be supplied.
the thing was huge, over 200 MB IIRC.

it was hosted on some italian site.

//EDIT: it also featured the highres-pack, that propably causing the huge size.

if someone remembers it plz tell!

@Narfous: definitely not what i mean. the one i think of only focused on Doom1/2/64

@CorRiz: haha, not exactly the way i am doing business, you know. but if you need info, here is all the info i can give you: "Q2 is a collection of levels for Quake. The add-on contains over 100 independent single-player & multi-players maps."
:D

btw: after searching some more the whole thing seems to be non-existent anymore.....

Alright fine, I'm feeling generous anyhow.

However, please let me know if you do come across Q2 for Quake.

Deal?

Try here for Doom Remake:

ok, thanks. though that link didn't work for me, but i found it on: http://beta.3ddownloads.com/doomworld/f ... remake.exe

high speed link :)

but i am still missing one thing: renewal_skin.exe, this seems to be hosted nowhere, since the original author stopped providing it. i am trying to get it off p2p, but got only 3 sources :(

@CorRiz: the mod you are looking for seems even more seldom than this file here, but i will keep an eye open. there where 0 hits on p2p thou....

I want to know more about this "doom_remake.exe". What types of features does it have? Also what is the "renewal_skin.exe" used for? Is this special doom wad just some type of installer that gives Doom a Doomsday update and hi-res textures or does it do more?

It was a one installer accumulation of all the Doomsday files & high-res textures. Out of respect to the Doomsday makers, the creator of the "Doom Remake" file decided to not share it anymore.

I think people just like the convenience of having all in one easy installer but truth is that you'd be better off getting the latest version of Doomsday and installing all the latest packs individually because Doom Remake is out of date now.

So basically it's just a full installation for people who don't want to do so much downloading and installing?

I still think Risen 3D is better as it has more animated models, splash effects, and other cool stuff that Doomsday doesn't have: http://risen3d.newdoom.com/

Stick to zDoom, guys. ;) It's not only superior to all the other ports but Randy is currently experimenting with Polymost!

(For those who don't know: Polymost was written by Ken Silverman to allow the OpenGL graphics in jonof's duke3d port.)

And since the latest zDoom release was somewhen around christmas... Well, there's something big to come.

Of course - it does make a huge difference. I've also been playing it sometimes (mainly because I really like the OGG music!). But somehow... It's not doom. The doom-feeling is lost. And zDoom is also more than a port. It has many features that jDoom sevearly lacks. What I found most annoying on Doomsday is that it can't cope with bridges - that are frequently used in modern Doom wads.
