Ok, this is how it goes:

1 - Transfusion is for multiplayer only, and it is not a fanmade crap; it will be the new way to play blood when the single player portion be done 'cause Monolith sucks and won't release Blood's source code, wich is needed in order for the programmers to make a port of sorts, wich would allow people to play Blood perfectly under Windows XP;

2 - DosBOX totally sucks. On better computers it runs the game nice, but on slower computers [such as mine] it will just suck, and the music didn't work here anyway with DosBOX;

3 - There is no special "XP" Blood.

So? Well, there are two options left:
A - Take that old MMX from the garage, format it and play raw Blood perfectly, or
B - Do the following:

Get to Google and get VDM Sound, NOLFB, Cli2nop and put'em in the Blood directory, except for VDM Sound, wich you must just install

Now go to Start>Run, type CMD and hit enter; browse to the blood directory then type nolfb and hit enter, then type cli2nop and hit enter, then exit.

Right-click Setup.exe and choose Run with VDM Sound, then setup the sounds like this:
Sound Blaster [if available, SB16 or AWE]
IRQ 5 [if doesn't work, try 7]
DMA 8 must be like 1 and DMA 16 must be like 3, just don't change them

Finish the VDM thingy wizard, go to the setup screen and try running the game. It must work at this point. If it doesn't, try running it from the prompt screen [do the cmd thing and try the game thru setup.exe]

If all the voodoo above don't work, THEN try dosbox, wich is the heavyest option.

If the game works but is unplayable, consider the MMX at the garage ;)

p.s.: there are many pages related to running blood and even more wich focus on running BUILD games on XP, wich must be easier to find. I've seen some info on how to make it at cruduxcruo.com some time ago ^^

Well, I have a friend who told me how to do it, I just assumed he found it out on the internet :P

Now here's something new, at least for me... He told me that you can run Blood under WinXP without problems by opening the autoexec.nt file with notepad or something and adding the following line:

Code: Select all

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H7 P330 T6
then save the file, restart windows and voilá.

But I didn't try it out yet...

What year is it? 2007. Why are you still using below-low end computers? An average Sempron 2400 can get very high framerates in Blood on DOSBox.
VDMSound is obsolete, it is not the 'messiah of dos emulation'. Can you run VDMSound on other operating systems? No.

And the music works fine in DOSBox.

Actually, some games may crash randomly or won't even run.
Here, I had problems with both Redneck Rampage and Redneck Rampage: Rides Again. RR crashes randomly, at different situations. On Hickston, I had to cheat to get past the part where you have to fight the guy with akimbo pistols; RA locks um on the beggining of the intro movie.
Also, Powerslave crashes on the first map, going downstairs, unles I try it raw via the ms-dos prompt.

I've tried this method in past. I've played Blood in 640x480 with VDMSound, finished the game this way, but sound stopped working after some time. And yes, all build games I tried are working very good with latest 0.72 version of DosBOX.

My computer:
Processor: AMD Duron 1.1Ghz
RAM: 256Mb RAM
Video: GeForce 4 MX-4000
HD: 40Gb
OS: Windows XP "lite" [with all the gay content ripped off]
CD-Reader drive [used to be a cd writer but it just stopped working o.o']

Here the game is unplayable, and the music doesn't work with DosBOX, while it runs perfectly with all the stuff up there.

lol, mine was a birthday present when I turned 15; now I'm almost 19. I installed a new HD [the first one was 20Gb and blew up while I was playing GTA 3] and that damn video board. I was about to upgrade it last year, but decided to buy a new one, but that will take more time.

This is Brazil, we don't buy eletronic stuff here like ice cream on a sunny day. Things cost the triple here.

Now I've been playing Phantasmagoria with DOSBox since it just locks up with the DOS Prompt. The sound locks up a lot and sometimes simply stop; I'll have to burn the whole game and play on the Blood pc x_x *I have an old pc running Windows 95 wich was originally mounted to play Blood, but in wich I play all of my oldies, up to Quake II.*

i would say someone should made a sticky topic out of that "deathmask.net/buildxp" thingy

so if people want to know how to run an old game under XP they directly see what they can do and they dont spam the forum with these "useless"
questions.........

Done! Yeah, I wanted to add links to such info for how to run old games on modern systems. It would be nice if someone would like to help the site and look up these links on sites like: http://www.vogons.zetafleet.com/index.php

hi hurenbock too bad imissed this topic b4

well ater downloading my version there are some things to do

1. why it isnot working were you able to read any informations about
why its not running ? maybe just make a bath fil inside folder and type there:

blood.exe
pause

2. if there are no errors then look for your autoexec.nt and check if
you havethere
sblaster = .... etc

and check your autoexec.bat too if you have it

3. just maybe you will have to do some research just writing at google.com something like "blood""autoexec.nt" or "blood""autoexec.bat"
or whith files: config.sys config.nt

well back then when i was using my 1.5 GHZ machine the game runned fine under XP PRO well like i said BACK THEN......

and i did everything like DEATHMASK said.......and it worked on my old machine........

then someday i installed a new sound card driver and BANG
the game wasnt working anymore with the instructions From DEATHMASK

and now i have a new COMP

1.8 GHZ DUAL CORE
RADEON HD 2400XT
2048 DDR 2 RAM
REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION SOUND CARD

and BANG again the game wont run again with the INSTRUCTIONS from DEATHMASK

IM PRETTY SURE THAT THIS WHOLE THING HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SOUNDCARD PEOPLE USE !

like mentioned above on my old COMP using a SOUNDBLASTER 128 PCI it worked fine w/o any problems but without that card im not able to run the game !

IT STARTS UP THE DOS BUILD ENGINE WINDOW POPS UP AND BEFORE BLOOD STARTS IT IMMEDIATLY CLOSES and im back on desktop......

i have absolutley no clue why......NO ERROR MESSAGE NOTHING
