I have found a website providing direct downloads of hundreds of complete disk images for PC games from the early 80s to mid 90s. These are the files from the TOSEC IBM PC Compatible sets for booters, 3.5" and 5.25" disks.
They have every file for direct, free download from their 2 servers, no need to register and you have a quota of 1 GB per day.
I though it was very neat and that you guys might like it too
lots of broken (real broken, and I don't mean the booters) and/or missing disks though, there's often a disk 1 missing, or the disk images has files modified on them from like 200X (which defeats the point of disk imaging), or in a worse case, vital files missing in the actual images (Ultima Underworld disk images). Seems to be a rushed afterthought
I have noticed that some multi-disk games are still missing a few dumps, but only about a dozen titles or so are affected.
I haven't really looked into many of the images yet, so I don't know about the missing files and files with too new dates... but its a TOSEC set which usually means high quality. The set is in the state of sometime in 2006, and the TOSEC project seems to be in some kind of hibernation at the moment. People are supposedly still dumping disks and working on the sets, plus the page I linked to has a reputation for always being quick to update their sets. So lets hope that missing disks will be added, and broken images will be replaced sometime soon.
In any way it is the largest collection of images I have found so far, and I think disk games should be more often distributed as images than pre-installed archives
