Halloween 2008

Post by Sandon »

Hello everyone!

Halloween is near again and, like every year, I'm searching for old or new movies, I maybe don't know yet and can maybe look them at Halloween this year.

Nice movies I've seen last months:

1) Slither (with Nathan Fillion. Not too scary, but really much fun)

2) Stink Of Flesh (a really cheap movie and nearly I stopped watching after 2-3 minutes because of the bad masks, terrible actors (only one is good enough to call him an actor...) but later it has a bunch of nice ideas and at least I liked it)

3) Zombie - Woodoo (a film dead meat proposed to me). Also some nice ideas and splatter scenes but took a while to get in action)

4) Dead End (little, nice, clever movie. The family is authentic and as far as I know the movie was the first of his kind. If you have seen it, I think you know what I mean)

5) Wrong Turn (At least I like Eliza Dushku not much, but the movie was able to thrill me, because the people acted not stupid in my opinion. Wrong Turn 2, was Ok, but the first is far better)

6) Severance (A movie somewhere between Wrong Turn and Hostel. Clever, funny and sometimes a bit scary.)

Movies I don't liked:

The Hills Have Eyes (brutal: yes, splatter: yes, but in both movies the people who get in danger were so stupid, that i had problems to fear with them...)

Let's see...

'The Car' - One of my favorite B-movies, the Car of the Devil goes on a rampage in the american west.
'Frogs' - completely rediculous horror movie, an unpleasant family living in a swamp is attack by the residents of it, including the title charaters.
'Cube' - best low buget movie made in the last 20 years, a group of strangers wake up in 'the cube', a series of square shifting rooms with exits on all 6 sides, some benign, some containing deadly traps.
'Evil Dead II' - funny, scary, great cinimatography, directed by Sam Rami (Spiderman movies), a classic.
'Event Horizon' - vastly unrated 'haunted ship' movie, in space.
'Halloween' - the original movie, still super creepy after all these years.
'Alien' - scary movies don't get much better than this.
'Reanimator' - H.P. Lovecraft, mad scientist invents serum that reanimates dead tissue, super gory but great, a classic.
'From Beyond' - H.P. Lovecraft, mad scientist invents a machine that allows people to see into another dimension, unfotunatly they can see out too.
'Hellraiser' - A man comes into the possesion of a puzzlebox that when solved summons sadistic 'angels' of pain.

I just saw again with friends Halloween 4, the return of Michael Myers. The Halloween films are all time classics. I have seen both of "the heels have eyes". The first one i think it was really schocking and well made. The second one wasn't that good."Wrong turn" i have seen only the first one, which was a nice horror film.

Let's see too:
1) Nightmare on Elm street series
2) The curse of Darkness Falls
3) Stephen King's-The Fog (the original one)
4) Stephen King's-the Nightflier
5)Stephen King's-Needful things
6) SAW 1-2

Yay! Halloween, I love it ;)

I'm a big fan of Zombie movies and horror in general. These are some of my fav movies:

1) George Romero's original trilogy: Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead (1985).

2) Reanimator (abovementioned): a great classic. Just one thing, there's a kind of unofficial secuel to this movie called "Beyond Reanimator", but it SUCKS, don't waste your time watching that crap.

3) Braindead: Peter Jackson's goriest movie with a dark sense of humor.

4) Bad Taste: Another Peter Jackson's gory movie that rocks.

5) The Shining: A haunted hotel and Jack Nicholson going insane with a freaking axe, need I say more? ("Here's Johnny").

6) Dario Argento's Demoni 1 and 2.

7) Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead and Zombies.

I must be missing lots of more great movies, but these are good enough to scare the hell outta you :D

Looks like your childhood was kinda boring (no offense)...

Gotta agree with that. Remakes particularly suck, nothing beats the originals.

EDIT: Looks like some people here are way too mature... Why did they bother to post here anyway? lol

Halloween ROCKS! :D

Here's a good list of of best Horor Movie Moments - meaning one particular scene in each movie which was really scary (but most qualify for the whole movie being great as well) -

Hello,

First: Thank you Trey, Tsampikos, Mister_Headcrab and Scaryfun for your replies and sorry for my late answer.

Second: Many of mentioned movies I know, but didn't thought of them, for that reason I wrote, only some I didn't know.

@ Trey: "Frogs", yeah, my girlfriend did see it long time ago and I too. Ridiculous is right, but because of that it's fun to see (in german TV it was cut (don't ask why) and I get now an english (hopefully) uncut version.

"From Beyond" I didn't knew. Sounds interesting. I try to get it, if not it's on my list for next year.

"The Car". Think there are many bad films of that type, hope I get the right one. Can you tell me (if you want and not with too much spoilers), what do you like at the film?

@ Tsampikos: "The Fog" ... I'm not sure what you mean. I know John Carpenters The Fog and there is a new one of it (that i've not seen). From Stephen King I only know The Mist (also not seen yet), but read the short story (not really short  ). Did you mean The Mist and if, it's good? John Carpenter's "The Fog" was one of the best horror movies of it's time I think.

The Nighmare on Elm Street series is too long for one night (and only Elm Street is to much Freddy  ).

@Mister_Headcrab: 7) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081318/ Is that the right one?
Braindead is great, for the budget Bad Taste also.
Demoni 1 seems to be (at imdb) a mini tv series and Demoni 2 written by Dario Argento. Are there different versions or you mean them?

@Scaryfun: From the first 50 movie I have seen more than 40. But some (like Aliens) I wouldn't stick to genre horror movie. I have to check out the list a bit closer. Is there a way to find out what scene is meant?

Greetings

'The Car' - http://www.amazon.com/Car-James-Brolin/dp/B0013527K2

I just like this movie because of its B-movie campyness, and it crazy premise (an evil possessed killer car), also it's well done. A fun movie to watch on a Saturday afternoon.

I'd also like to recomend 'Killdozer' - http://www.amazon.com/Killdozer-IMPORT/ ... 560&sr=1-1
Which might be the all time campiest horror movie. Possessed bulldozer goes on a killing spree! It's almost impossible to get though except as a bootleg. Even this copy listed on Amazon.com goes for $100...
