Yahoo Briefcase is shutting down on March 30th. That only leaves us a week before tons of our old uploads will be dead soon.
If you would like to contribute to our site but have been unable to do so in the past, this is a perfect opportunity to help us preserve this gaming history. Those who do will garner "Super Member" status in the forum and allow you access to sections unavailable to the general public as well.
You can use download managers like FlashGet to download files as you access each briefcase. They are good to prevent slow downloads from stopping prematurely and queuing a list of files to download one after another. Especially useful is the "Download everything with Flashget" option if there are a lot of files.
I'm wondering, would this task be easiest for each person to pick a letter or 2 of the alphabet and do all games starting with that letter? Or by year? Would you be willing to resort those lists to help with that?
EDIT: never mind, I just noticed you have them grouped by year.
Do you want that list exactly, or can items be skipped if they're redundant? By way of example H.U.R.L. by Atomic Potato from Yahoo Briefcase is a "Full Demo", but you have an ISO demo already on 4shared.
I was also wondering about the wisdom of saving some of the old RIPs which were made back in the bad old days of dial-up, when uploading big files was a huge pain, alot of them are teeny-tiny (less then 50MB) while the ISOs of those games tend to be small also (usually less than 300MB). Now adays with broadband it's just as easy to upload ISOs of those same games. Are you saving them for completness sake, just to have them?
Regarding the lists of titles in that other thread, I realised I own some of them as ISO images, on CD/DVD-R or legit copies.
(It's probably the case for most of 3dsl visitors and members...)
A good idea might be for each of us willing to help to list in that thread what we'll be ready to re-up as new ISOs, thus avoiding useless download of redundant files and concentrate on what's worth to save from Yahoo's sinking ship...
Suggestion: Scaryfun, you could edit the first of post and compile a register of the titles/owners/re-uppers to ease the process...
Just waiting for your decision to list my stuff...
Sorry, I missed the last two posts in this thread.
Some people in the world still have slow connections or also would rather download a smaller rip than the whole cd so that's why we'd like to preserve them as well.
@Morcles - If you check each game entry up to 2001, you'll see that we offer ISOs as well for most of the games already. It's just that the Yahoo briefcase uploads were mostly rips. The ISOs tend to be on 4shared so they haven't been affected.
Yeah. About rips/ISOs. I didn't get it first...
Kudos to Keropi and Bullthorn for the rescue mission accomplished!
I didn't have spare time to join the party, but I wanted to for the great work done...
