Help on how to fic this would be appreciated.

What kind of computer and OS do you have? Does it give an error message or does it just crash to the desktop?Rpgingmaster wrote:I installed the rip of HL: Source from this website, and it installs fine, but it keeps crashing on startup.

My specs are
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4650
Memory: 2 GB
The error is "Windows has encountered an error", and mentions the program will not respond. I don't even get as far as a black screen before it crashes. The install went fine, though, and no corrupted files were encountered.

Tried it
I have the 32 bit version of windows vista home premium, tried running it as administrator.
Below is the exact error message:
hl2.exe has stopped working
A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

A guy who got it to work on his 32bit Vista machine posted this:
There are multiple suggestions I have:
1) Find the executable file in steamapps and set compatibility mode to Windows 98.
2) Go to controlpanel>system>advancedsettings(on the left)>settings(visual performance)>Data Extraction Tab. Now set DEP on for all programs except the ones you select. Browse for all the half-life executable files and add them.
3) Reboot computer so that compatibility mode takes affect.
Game should start up now.
Once you're in the game, it may crash when new areas are loaded, so save frequently. If it crashes, just close out the game and start it up again. Now walk slowly through the same area but holding the crowbar and doing nothing with it. I've found this prevents the crashing. Lastly, if during a level loading area something pops up and asks if you want to launch this program, you'll have to turn off UAC:
1)Controlpanel>useraccounts>Turn user account control on or off
2)Follow instructions and turn off, then reboot computer to take affect. Your computer will freak out at you for being unprotected, but just ignore that.
And that's all the advice I have. I never found a way to actually fix the ingame crashes, but after the first go through the game they seem to have stopped.

Partial success
Well, the program installs to C:\ProgramFiles\HalfLife2
Second, when I used those suggestion on the "HalfLifeSource.exe", it simply wouldn't respond, as opposed to crashing, and the "hl2.exe" kept crashing anyway.
FYI, this is a custom nonsteam rip made by Digital Zone (the same one available on the website)
