King Kong On Windows 7

Post by jjim »

Has anyone managed to get this game working on Windows 7 with a crack or mini image? I have tried with the Reloaded version that works fine on XP but brings up a starforce copy protection message with W7.

I didn't test the crack on Windows 7 when I uploaded the game. Now I get the same error. It's also possible that the crack won't work on a 64-bits Windows.

As far as I know, there is no way to play this game on Windows 7 without a crack. The SF drivers are not compatible with this version of Windows, even after the SF driver update.

and well this game was a INTERNAL meaning it uses the copy protection hole in the drivers to run this game... so you have to wait for Starforce to make compatible Win7 drivers to make this game start again

Protection versions below 5.5 do not support Windows 7.
Users of products that protected with 3.x/4.x/5.0 versions should contact the protected program developers or publishers to obtain Windows 7 patches, or use previous Windows version to run the products.

King Kong is protected with SF v3.6.

Some SF protected games by Ubisoft have been re-released as budget editions without the protection, but not all of them. There is also a budget edition of King Kong available (in the Ubisoft eXclusive range), yet it still uses the SF protection. The same story goes for Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood.

Thanks for the info - I guess it's a bit too new for COG - that would solve the issue.

I think you're better off playing one of its console ports (either PS2 or Xbox360) instead of the PC version. It's just not worth it, too many issues (star-stupid-force, terrible optimization, etc).
KK is a pretty fun game, but it's totally console-like (far away from PC gaming).

ehm well that was kinda nonsense , PC version is a XBOX1 port , xbox360 is the more advance version to get

The Xbox 360 release featured improved graphics and audio over the sixth generation console releases. The PC download version (known as the "Gamer's Edition", no longer available) also included these improved features.

The "Special Edition" version of the game was available for a limited time. Along with the two standard game discs, included are: A bonus disc, containing concept art and a screensaver; and a making-of disc, containing a featurette with Peter Jackson. There was an error in the printing of the discs and the disc labelled "Making of" was actually the "Bonus" disc and vice-versa. The signature edition also comes with a Topps trading card of King Kong, a code for a downloadable ringtone, and a cover signed by Peter Jackson.

I agree - the PC version is not much better than the PS2. I am amazed that the HD version hasn't been leaked widely over the net - It would be nice to play. :)
