In the games defence, the reviewer does say it's a throwback, kind of like doom, and that modern gamers won't like it because of the less than spetacular graphics, and the old-style gameplay. That personally doesn't bother me, I don't need shiney graphics, I just want 'fun'.
I agree at all. They (Apogee or 3Drealms) did what ID software did with Doom 3: Let untouched the playability because they wanted and the fans wanted to. I keep backing to the old fps dos games from time to time because they are more fun than the modern ultra-pixelated-graphic-extravaganza. The modren games are not that good like those "good" reviewers say, all them are liars, they only focuse on graphics, if the game has good graphics then they say that the game is good. Don't trust anymore on those people.
So if Duke Nukem Forever has less spectacular graphics, that's not a problem to me.
I haven't played it, but I'm not holding my breath.
To be honest, I haven't played a new title since Crysis. I've been burned on so many new school games I just don't care any more.
I fell into the hype of Doom 3 and Quake 4. And both were pretty disappointing. Now to be fair, they weren't horrible games, but you just expected more. I finished both games on single player then tried some MP action but it just doesn't feel the same. The fast paced action is now gone.
If you want to play a game with more realism (i.e. stamina meters, slow movment speeds) then go play something else. But I hate how they brought that two those two titles... and I wouldn't be surprised if DNF has the same crap going on with it.
The last really good newer (post-2001) games I've played lately have been Pariah, STALKER, HL2 (but not those shitty episodes!), FarCry, UT2003, Painkiller and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. The newest title I've played was Portal 2 and it was okay. I was never a huge fan of Portal in the first place, but I respect it.
