Last in Amsterdam (textadventure, Dutch)

Last in Amsterdam

Image

This textadventure, developed in 1992, was included for free with a Dutch computer magazine. People who played through the game before the first of Februari 1993, had a chance to win some prizes. I'm not sure if anyone did win something eventually. I also played this game in 1992, but never came far.

Description, roughly translated from Dutch:

Our hero is called Geurt, a farmerboy from West-Friesland (a part in the north of Holland). His brother and sister went to Amsterdam a few weeks ago and nobody has heard from them since. Do they have a job, do they have money, are they still alive, do they want to go back home, are they well fed, is there cable TV? All questions that Geurt wants answered.

One day, Geurt takes a decision: "Off to the big city!". He kisses his mother, takes his suitcase and drives off on his motorcycle. "I'll be back for dinner!", he calls. How should this end? Geurt never ventured outside the village before and has yet to be confronted with theft, beggars, trams and bars. It's your job to help Geurt find his brother and sister.

Weird, I always thought it was "Lost in Amsterdam". Never got further than the intro anyway, but that's just me. ;)

Yeah, many people thought it was like that (possibly a spelling error), including me. It even would be more appropriate, since the brother and sister of Geurt are indeed lost in Amsterdam. But then the title would be English, for a Dutch game. "Last" means burden in English, and in this context it could be translated as "trouble".

At one point, you have to visit the red light district for several tasks ;) Unfortunately, you can't smoke weed in-game. There are drugs involved, because you need to buy amphetamine, but it's not for yourself.

You could win a 80386 40 Mhz computer at that time.
