Paste in the Russian version, there may be some differences in number of files it is better to keep the russian ones in...
Why would I do this?
Patch 1.4 installed. The audiere fix made on rutracker.org wont work in the English version. (You can enable music without issues)

With it, the game does not freeze when skipping cutscenes, does not dull when transitioning from the game to the menu and back
This is work in progress, so there may be more files to copy...

Nah I spoke too soon, once you enable music, the game starts crashing again on launch.
US clean install
apply audiere fix
apply vshader fix
Launch the game.
Scratch that, the order of launch appears to matter for this title. The modified audiere was compatible without the vshader fix. Seem like you have to apply all the fixes before first launchThe audiere fix made on rutracker.org wont work in the English version.

If it only were as simple as outlined in OP - just figured out the gynormous scale of topic title "project", and gave up on it; here are the takeaways:
1.4 omits some resource files that 1.3 patches in (way more than just the a/b variant differences)

AND - the patching process consists of adding unpacked subfolders with newer resources to Program Files (as those go first in loading priorities) INSTEAD of cramming 'em in their respective .res packages (checksums unchanged - self-verified)

Speaking of, here's scripts that unpack/convert stuff (dunno how much Orion Engine library does it cover; Hellforces confirmed though): https://github.com/AlexKimov/og-file-formats

The amounts in just the appended subfolders alone overwhelmed me amateur cataloguing arse - no wonder (speculating) Orion just crammed almost everything they've jumbled up (hardly knowing diferrences themselves - 'twas their first released game after all) into newly-recompiled .res for international distribution, and worked out the kinks afterwards in those latter Program Files' subfolders (thus, no patches to even need to release after pressing them discs)Terje_P wrote: Sun Jan 19, 2025 12:30 amPaste in the Russian version, there may be some differences in number of files it is better to keep the russian ones in...
