Creation of a PC game

Post by stiv_ntouzos »

ok like Martin Luther King once said...i have a dream.
and this dream is to create an old school adventure game with C++
i am not a super programmer but i have some basic knowledge and i have some programming experiences

So since i know there are hard core adventurers here that might have tried doing something in the past , i will ask you all the help you can give so i achieve to make something out of it......
well i am not very convienced of my computere talents....to make this game help me to prove wrong to myself.

All the help you can give me would be appreciated, links, advices, anything

thanks in advance , i think this topic could interest a lot of people , maybe there was another topic in the past here, and now let me retire to my artistic domain and continue to create...
kill a man and you're a murderer,
kill many and you're a conqueror,
kill them ...all and you're god

Building the game from scratch is a bit too hard in my opinion. Try Quest3D VR Edition 3.6

Code: Select all

You need not only be a programmer, but a designer, artist, script writer and musician. Are you planning to make this game alone? If so - it is almost impossible, even Richard Garriott in early 90s have admitted it. For a start you should write the design document.

Why not use Adventure Game Studio (AGS)? It's quite popular and free.

first of all, this is just an effort to do a game. I don't agree about all the qualities you mention...i don't have to be a musician to make an adventure game, old games adventures where just primitive pc sound, and to say the truth i don't really care about sound it's just a plus if i make a theme that could be play again and again with the primitive pc sound. i suppose that it's not big deal creating a thread that will run and play in loop a beep music.

you mention Richard Garriot, but let me remind you guys like al lowe , Ron Gilbert, Brian Moriarty and others like eric chahy who made completely alone the magnificent another world (also called out of this world) game . I have two friends that are intrested in participating on this project ...a project that could take years, but it's just for fun and to experience and learn things.
I have already a story in my mind and hope that i will finish it until the end of the month. This is just a dream don't ruin it, you got to encourage me :D

very very intresting didn't know about that, thanks i will considerate it.
although my goal was also to improve my C++ skills, it's a very handy solution.
the creator of AGS has made it with Visual C++ it would be nice if i achieve to make something equivalent.....maybe not so sophisticated but this is the idea.

After some search i found some opensource engines for creating games, this could be very helpfull to give me some ideas.

and
http://agistudio.sourceforge.net/

as i said any other help is much appreciated , if anyone also had this experience to try making a game he could share an opinion .
