I read in a really old post that the Omikron images uploaded by Scaryfun
are Clone CD images.
So far I downloaded CD1 and I'm confused about why the image has an
.ISO extention instead of a .IMG extention?
I want to burn the game to CD but I don't want to make a bunch of coasters
so is the ISO extention going to be a problem?
I think Clone CD can handle ISO files but I would like to understand why
and how they were made as ISO files instead of IMG files in the first place?
(Edit: Oops, correction. The CloneCd image file is IMG file not a CCD file.
The CCD file is the file type CloneCD looks for. Nevertheless my basic question
remains the same.)

If you're referring to the split-archives with 10 MB chunks, named Omik1.part1.rar, Omik1.part2.rar,... (three of them with some forty-odd parts each), they DO contain an ISO file (each), but it's a legitimate image format, just like CCD, CUE, IMG, SUB files when the image is made with CloneCD.
Although you can't burn discs from ISO images with CloneCD (not with the version 4 I have), you can do it with Nero, or other disc-burning software without a problem.

Yeah zobraks, that's the archive I am talking about. The thing is that Omikron CD1 is copy protected with Safedisc 1.30.010 so I thought ISO is an unorthodox format to use especially if its made by Clone CD.
I know that a lot of people play games using CD-ROM emulators so don't bother burning the image file to CD. I also came across an old post or two which mentioned the image file (for different game, not Omikron) would only work when played by an emulator but not when burned to CD. So I was wondering if that might be the same situation with Omikron.
The only reference to the ISO format I can find in the Clone CD documentaion is in the revision history.
CloneCD 5.0.0.0 (beta) 2004-70-29
- New: Added ability to write .iso and .udf formats created with
other applications (e.g., Nero, DVD2One, DVDShrink or CloneDVD)
CloneCD 5.0.2.1 2004-09-16
- New: DVDs can now be saved as .iso files
And thats all thats written about it. There is nothing about the ISO format in the CloneCD help file and I can't find the ISO format listed among the options in the current version 5.3.1.3. Previously CloneCD didn't support the ISO format at all.
So if anyone has burned the Omikron ISOs to CD and they worked, please let me know what burning program they used. I want to avoid creating unnecessary garbage.

I used a series of softwares for this, as yo note, Clone to make the ISO and then Alcohol 120 to make the CD's and the content all came across fine. I have not tried to run them yet, but the files are all there, as i have an other copy of this game and know the file struture. It is a bit tricky getting OMK to run on XP but it can be done, most ppl in fact dont have trouble but some do. Good luck.
I have been busy with other things lately so I haven't been around the forum lately. Thanks for the info CrisG.
Back in August I burned the ISOs to CD using Alcohol 120 allowing for the fact that the CDs were copy protected with Safedisc 1.30.010. Well, no dice, they were not perfect copies. The game would install but would not play. I had to use UnSafedisc on the ICD file to get the game to work.
In principle there is nothing wrong with that because the game works. It does however fall short of the Holy Grail of making perfect copies. That is the whole point of using CloneCD to make the disc images in the first place. I then burned a copy of CD2 using CloneCD 5.3.1.3 and again it would only work if I used an unwrapped copy of the EXE file made by UnSafedisc.
ISO support was added to CloneCD to make copies of DVDs. It was not intended for use with CDs.
In the future if someone is going to make CloneCD images it is best to stick with the default CloneCD image format CCD/IMG files.
