Mouse control in Blood and Doom95

Post by Trey »

Does anyone know how to set the mouse in either of these games so that it's just 'mouse look'? They're both configured where moving the mouse forward or backward, moves you forward or backward... it's kind of annoying.

I remember Doom when we played it over the local network during my studies. I had to configure the computers with the IPX/SPX protocol. At this time any "High Performance Computer" was equipped with a 486DX and 4MB RAM (!).
As far as I can remember the game was shipped with a "config.exe" or "setup.exe" or "install.exe". This program allows to configure the keyboard and mouse functions and creates a configuration file for the game.
As far as I know there is no "mouse look" in the game because the view in the game is restricted to front view. There are many fan made updates according to this...

By 'Mouse Look' I just ment where you control the direction strickly with the mouse and movement strickly with the keyboard. It's default is mouse controls both direction and forward/backward movement (a control scheme that has thankfully died...).

Please, you don't really want to answer me for looking for my old CD's and read the menu of the install exe to you?
I can remember it as it was only some days before that it was very tricky to get the controls working the way I wanted.
The INSTALL(?).EXE created a text file. (???.CFG or so)
At a last attempt I edited it with a text editor (like Volkov commander)...

Why don't you just use one of the many "source port" updated versions of Doom, like ZDoom, Doom Legacy, etc etc. They all have mouse look.

Because that particular computer was too old and ricketty to run ZDoom or Legacy. It did run Doom95 alright though.
