Re: 4Shared Download
Still had to make an account and add it as "premium account", although it's a normal one.Egon68 wrote:Use JDownloader.
Wouldn't download even the tiniest text-file without it.

Re: 4Shared Download
Use any of these dummy accounts (U=User, P=Password):
4shared download logins:
U: qqq@mailinator.com
U: rrrr@mailinator.com
U: tttt@mailinator.com
U: uuuu@mailinator.com
U: xyzxyz@mailinator.com
P: test
... or create one by yourself.
Isn't i crazy? The whole "free" western world is talking about "Protect the environment by avoiding garbage!". Everyday one is bombarded on TV with messages like "Separate your waste!" or "Buy our expensive BIO food only, because it's 'fair trade!'"
And then on the other hand there are suckers like these from 4shared who force all users to produce tons of data garbage and wasting their time with downloading MBytes of javascripts and senseless advertising only to be able to access their site.
Why don't you switch to another host like filetolink or mediafire?

Re: 4Shared Download
Mediafire deletes files pretty quickly, but I don't know about filetolink. A simple way to avoid ads is just to copy 4shared folder link to jdownloader.

Re: 4Shared Download
zomgupload allows VERY fast downloading, IDK about actual file longevity tho.

Re: 4Shared Download
It's also possible to download without "logging in" by using MiPony
that's the download manager which was recommended here:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10929
I have 3 simultaneous downloads going on right now, and that
on links that require you to "log in" when going there in a browser!

Re: 4Shared Download
The links to 4shared are down on this site. I've used both firefox and IE and they just won't connect. I tried several download links and nothing happens.

Works fine in IE for me. Make sure browser setting allows passing of referal information.

Re: 4Shared Download
After 4shared enforced mandatory registration, I happened to need a file from it. So I tested all available downloaders, from well-known to the ones I tried for the first time.
USD was a wreck. It's semi-abandoned and 'supports' 4shared through one of the scripts of new meta-plugin that failed to work on my PC as intended.
JD looked more fit but required to have a 4shared account. Another minus was the fact is comes packaged with or tied to some crap and has no portable version or neat uninstallation.
Mipony was a mess. Looks can be deceiving ^.^
FRD was no headache and the only one that delivered me the file.
I was wary of FHS's offered software, so didn't check 4shared Desktop at that time.
Thus, judging by ability to download from 4shared.com:
1st - FRD - no account required (though cannot use your credentials presently), open-source, can be configured portable
2nd - JD - open-source
3rd - not awarded
4th and 5th - USD, if you can run it, and Mipony, if you are an adept at fighting crapware

It didn't do the job either, but made a hidden installation of several crapware products, that I had to manually unroot.freakboy wrote:I suspect this program for spreading viruses. I may be wrong though. Be aware.

Re: 4Shared Download
JDownloader, FreeRapid and Mipony all work fine with 4shared. All 3 recognize folder links at the moment (using the latest plugins).
Mipony is bundled with the Babylon Toolbar, which you can disable during installation. I have installed it and there isn't any "hidden installation of several crapware products" at my end.
Mipony isn't the only one with extra's. The web installer of JDownloader is also bundled with extra software (yontoo). Better use the offline installer.
JDownloader and FreeRapid both require Java (which might be a disadvantage for some), Mipony doesn't.

Re: 4Shared Download
Java is cross-platform, so, while a nuisance for some Windows users, it's an advantage for people with other platforms.
I managed to get USD (Universal Share Downloader) to work. It is lightweight and portable, does not require java, recognizes 4shared folders, but for concurrent downloads you need to run several instances. Also it does not support Unicode and has problems with understanding and resuming of larger than 2 GB files. The program is mostly closed-source, but has been around for 8 years and hasn't been found to contain any threat.
To set it up for 4shared.com in a purist way:
Get USD (or just program without plugins + needed plugins like ForShared.plg) and extract to a folder
Copy libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll from OpenSSL to USD folder
Get usdLua and needed plugins like 4shared_com.lua (or you can go all the way from Lua before that) and extract to USD folder
In USD subfolder \Lua\ create file usdLua_accounts.lua and add there your 4shared credentials following usdLua_accounts.lua.sample
Run USD, go to Options->Misc, uncheck: Use Internet Explorer for HTTPS
Go to Options->Plug-ins, under X uncheck: ForShared.plg, check: usdLua.plg
Configure Default download folder (Options->Misc) and other safe settings as you pleased
There is a chance that you may need:
Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package for usdLua
Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package for OpenSSL
Non-purists can just use any of all-in-one assemblies of USD.
Mipony is closed-source, not portable and requires .NET Frаmework 2.0. There were reports of its unscrupulous behavior. Even if they changed attitude with time, for me it's "you might trick me once. I won't let you trick me twice".
FRD (FreeRapid Downloader) can be made to download with desired credentials - you'll need to edit existing plugin to create a new one with info from your cookie.
All in all, I'll leave my rating intact for now.
