This is a freeware horizontal shooter that features two playable characters and four levels to beat. Both characters have their own set of special abilities, ranging from the usual clear screen spell to the special bullet deflection power. Using any of these skills will cost you purple gems, deducted from your gem count shown at the top left corner of the screen. Gems are collected automatically if you refrain from shooting for a fraction of a second. The game offers unlimited continues and a configurable difficulty setting as well, in addition to a couple of other tweaks which you can find inside the options menu. This is a really cool shmup game that you can download and play for free – a really fun and well done indie game which, even though rather short, will certainly prove to be delightful for the fans of the genre. The game is really, really intense and challenging, just like the old games used to be. With just four levels to beat, though and two characters to choose from (each with different special abilities), Maya Kai is also quite replayable and, since it's completely free, it's a real gem! |
