Soldner: Secret Wars Wings Simulations / Encore Software 2004

In the year 2010, countries choose increasingly unconventional warfare by using special secret forces. Military success is no longer made by major countries but by small and highly specialized mercenary troops. The game offers tactical military action, a realistic virtual battlefield with advanced terrain engine with a new destruction system, and a simulation of a highly complex diplomatic system which creates the dynamic campaigns and missions. There is dynamic world generation based on digital satellite data with day and night cycle and changes in weather. It's designed for team play in a Multiplayer environment with a multitude of team missions on dedicated server support for up to 32 players, up to 128 players on special servers. There are also dynamic single player campaigns with mission generator and realistic weapon systems from the research laboratories of the military industry. The game was first announced in a press release on 22nd May 2002, but was ultimately rushed out two years later under pressure of the publisher, with a few bugs and features that were left out. Although the initial release gathered some bad reviews because of this, the developer promised to continue working on the game, and sent out a massive amount of patches - both fixing bugs as introducing new vehicles, weapons, maps and features. A revised version came later called Soldner: Secret Wars - Reloaded that incorporates the four previously released patches, along with five new vehicles, five new weapons and three maps. It also comes with a strategy guide included. Owners of the original game can update to this version for free, so as to make multiplayer games possible.
